Do any of you honestly believe the Sun is going to destroy the Earth someday if the human race is still in existence by then!? Heck no. The Earth is our holy land, if you will, and it will be relocated. And if the Earth isn't relocated, the Sun will be changed in some way by our species. In 7 billion years from now, we will be a Type IV civilization. We will be Gods.

no i don't think sun will, Earth is moving away from the sun at rate of 15cm each year, in 7 billion years time when Sun goes nova even at current rate Earth will be too far from our Sun to be affected, projected future orbit is around 300-320 million km, At most Sun is expected to reach is present orbit of Venus. Venus will also move away from Sun and should be in orbit of arund 240-250 million km. Mercury won't be so lucky.

We'll have to let it go sooner or later before the heat death of the universe...

Unless... we can escape the inevitable end and drag the Earth along with us into a newer, younger universe, infusing its core occasionally with new fabricated nuclear elements from time to time... if we actually do make Type III status, there might be solutions that are totally beyond our current understanding... we might create a "pocket universe" around our entire Solar System and transport the whole shebang from one dying universe to the next, over and over again... Who knows?

The researchers used Herschel to scan the protoplanetary disk around the 10-million-year-old star TW Hydrae, one of the nearest such disks available for study. (Protoplanetary disks are the swirling pancakes of dust and gas surrounding young stars that can coalesce over millions of years, as the sun's disk did, into terrestrial planets and gas giants.) The astronomers reported in the October 21 issue of Science that they picked up a faint signature of water vapor from TW Hydrae's disk, which they presume emanates from a much larger reservoir. The icy outer portion of the disk probably contains enough water to fill Earth's oceans thousands of times over, the researchers estimate.

Russia Launching Probe to Sample Mars' Moon Phobos Today

Russia is set to launch a robotic spacecraft to the Mars moon Phobos today (Nov 9) marking the nation's first attempt at an interplanetary mission in 15 years.

The Phobos-Grunt mission is slated to blast off from Kazakhstan's Baikonur cosmodrome at 3:16 p.m. EST today (2016 GMT; 12:16 a.m. local time on Nov. 9). The main goal is to grab some dirt from Phobos' surface and return the samples to Earth in 2014 ("grunt" means "soil" in Russian).

If successful, Phobos-Grunt could shed a great deal of light on the early days of Mars and the solar system, experts say. It would also be a big morale boost for the Russian space program, which has suffered through the failure of three other Mars missions since the late 1980s.
