Mark Zuckerberg CEO and Founder of Facebook is currently worth $17.5 Billion.
in 2010, 27 year old Mark Zuckerberg saw his personal net worth rise $10.7 Billion in one year, that's more than any other person on the Forbes list. Facebook is reportedly worth some $80 Billion and is expected to go public on the stock market when it reaches a $100 Billion valuation. This surge may well put Zuckerberg as the richest person in the world within the next couple of years!

and this is why America is in the shitter, they produce shit, and value it 100 times more than its real value.

Facebook, that page everyone uses? Yeah, it's worthless.

No you just don't know how Facebook actually works and makes money I highly recommend you read The Facebook Effect. It explains everything and why they make so much money from advertising!!
Basically everything you click on facebook is an ad. Status updates, likes, pictures, links, you name it they make money off of it.
I really think that selling information might be where the future is headed. Advertising is a HUGE business and with 750 million people Facebook has a huge market.

Things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. Is Facebook overvalued? Probably, but eh. Zuckerberg hit the jackpot, succeeded where many others tried and failed. He wasn’t the first to try to build a social network, he was just in the right place at the right time, I think...

A big chunk of my traffic has come from Facebook "like" referrals.and this is why America is in the shitter, they produce shit, and value it 100 times more than its real value.

Even my Mum uses Facebook now. It's a great way of connecting with people.

I don't know if you realize this either, but Facebook was made to be addictive. notifications, news feeds, links, places, pictures, games etc... Every time one of those gets updated you get a nice little notification that you have to check and hence more ad revenue for the giant social network. Not to mention Facebook can be linked to all phones and the kids that use facebook regularly automatically choose to do this.
Social Networking is in its infancy right now. Facebook is only the start of it I think. Will Facebook be around in ten years? The Jury is still out on that but If you've seen Zuckerberg talking about his company, he is almost like Steve Jobs. Very passionate about what he does.
Sharing information is a BIG industry right now. I have been in contact with some startups in NYC who have gotten funding for very simple ideas. Facebook was one of the number one job growers in the country during the recession and even now. So they may not produce anything but they are employing people.
Google didn't produce anything in its early years either. A lot of software companies technically don't produce anything either. I don't see why Production needs to be our number one worry. Technology and software can get the job done too!!!
