It's pretty cool, though, isn't it? I will use it for the timeline. I'm thinking somewhere around 2075-2100.

The clothes in that movie are so sick... And that would help so much be able to put my clothes on that quick without any work and when it comes to sex I'm ready in a heart beat haha no more struggling with socks wink wink... I picture a future where everybody is into ska and dresses like punkers that would be a cool future to haha

Isn't this is in a computer though? I mean, it literally looks pixilated. How will that work in real life? Of course, I'm going on the assumption it would look exactly like the gif. By the way, is that the illustration you,re going to use on the timeline specifically?

IDK though, girls for sure won't go for this. And if unless there is some type of mandatory uniform in the future. People are going to want to customize clothes. Fashion is a large industry, one that most people take for granted. But it's always been with us, and I don't think technology is going to replace it anytime soon.

Yeah, it's from Tron - see here.

This kind of tech could happen in real life. Self-guiding nanotechnology or claytronics would coalesce / morph itself into place.

And yes, that's the exact image I'll use.

Huh? With technology like that, you could easily customise the clothes! Just program them to change colour, texture or whatever appearance you want.

I mean with buying only that one outfit. I know girls like to have many different outfits. Even if just to try it on.

If the clothing industry like that exists in 70 years I'll be shocked! A lot will have to happen to make claytronics and nano-tech cheaper than wool, cloth, and even silk and leather. I don't see it being practical in this century. maybe next one.

I could see it definitely being possible. Probably a gimick in the 2070s though.

Plain t-shirts where you download colous, patterns. Uses pixels instead of fibers.

If the thing wjfox posted happens, this would probably be the first step leading up to it.

I wouldn't mind looking at in-shape women in tight spandex clothing all of the time. That would actually be a gift to man-kind.

At the start you'll have plain t-shirts with a flexible thin OLED panel on the front.

You download and select the pattern/decal on your smartphone.

In few years we should have first avaible OLED T-shirt, flexible, waterproof but still energy is the problem and they won't become popular. Err, in 2070 I suppose we shall have nice clothing that is easily customizable.

I'm waiting for the day when we have clothing equality. The world of fashion is a horribly sexist industry where women are allowed to wear almost anything they could imagine and men are subjected to the strict rules society imposes on them. Woman goes to interview in suit with trousers, she gets the job, man goes to interview in a smart attractive dress, he gets laughed out of there. Whose sticking up for the men? No-one. The only people out campaigning are women... wanting more rights.. even though they already have more rights than men! If a man goes to work in a nice tucked in shirt but forgets his tie, he's told he's not dressed appropriately. If a woman goes to work in grey tracky bottoms and a pink polo shirt, it's absolutely fine. I desperately need you to add a date on the timeline when you think real equality might happen. Even if you just make it up it would still give me some comfort and hope for the future. Thanks.

It seems like at this level, the difference between clothing and organic matter is negligible. Once we have this tech, I think that it will be possible to change our actual appearance, rather than simply cover it. The only people to whom this technology would be attractive would be the stick-in-the-muds who aren't going to be able to use this because of a lack of augmentation.

But we're dealing with fibers (or whatever it will made of). I assume it would be a relatively simple material if it's going to be manipulated in such a way. It seems we'd reach this technology quite a while before we're able to change trillions of cells in our body all at once (when many of them have different structures).

So did you mean we would be able to manipulate our bodies in order to make it appear as if we were wearing clothes? I wasn't clear on that.

I only hope Lady Gaga will not be the future fashion clothes reference 8) . But we need new materials some we use today are from oil like nylon and peak oil could increase his price.
