Google has started a pilot project allowing the public to look inside shops and other businesses found on its maps.

If you thought people were upset about Google Street View what are people going to think about this?!

The age of privacy is coming to an end my friend. Soon there will be live feeds of video everywhere!

If this happens non-voluntarily it would be a breach of the 4th Amendment especially if the government is vested in this.

Do you guys really think this is a live feed inside buildings, or do you just think that's where this is leading?

Either way, no...

This is a just voluntary program so that businesses can show off their interiors. It's not Big Brother. It's just a new way to grab a bit of attention online. If someone is new in town and looking for a mechanic nearby, they'll look up "mechanics near (my location)", and they'll check out reviews and maybe look at the street view map of the locations of each one. If they face a choice between two similar mechanics and one has an interior view of their shop and the other doesn't, the customer might just pick the one with the interior view, just because that one is willing to "put himself out there". Slightly more business will go to the mechanic with the interior street view, and the other one will have to cut prices or something to even the score, and the world will continue going round.

Some day I'm going to be taking a dump in a public restaurant and somebody's going to be spying on me through "Google Street View indoors."
I'm a business man, that's all you need to know about me.

Google has had a bunch of lawsuits concerning street view exactly because of privacy matters. I don't know how this will play out exactly. But I think yes, there will be no limit to this invasive technology.

There is already an internet fetish with watching people inside bathrooms, except nobody talks about it. Now, Google is peering inside the walls... Who's to say somebody else couldn't set up a live internet feed inside buildings? I know Conan O'Brien does this at his offices (with a comedic aspect to it of course) What about those futuristic glasses that automatically detect who a person (facebook profile) is as soon as you stare at them? So yes, this technology is not far off at all!

With lack of privacy perversions will slowly disappear.

I don't see anything anywhere about google using 'live feeds' now or any time soon, this is simply the extension of individual websites showing pictures of their interior, such as restaraunts, hotels, anyone who wants to attract customers in. Google say that this is going to be on a voluntary basis only, and that they will warn / blur any customers who happen to be there when the photoshoot happens. I don't see what the problem is? The streetview was far worse because (a) they operated in 'public space' so up to a point were entirely free to snap what they wanted and (b) they were naughty with the wifi capture element. Since this is not public space they will only be able to generate panoramas at the owners permission, although I'm sure their will likely be a few that change their minds after the event.
All right, brain. You don't like me and I don't like you, but let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer.

Yeah, I agree. Locally, there was a big project to do something similar several years ago where they mapped out the whole city I live in. We beat Google to it! :p Wasn't that big of a deal for something done locally, but I'd imagine knowing Google was doing something like this would be a cause for concern.

But check this out. It uses quicktime VR, but it's generally the same idea. http://www.virtualsu....com/homeflash/
