Some other forums have an 'alert' system which tells you when someone has quoted your post, or tagged you, or replied to a thread you've visited recently. It would be useful if something like that could be implemented here.

We do have it. If you click on the little bell next to the sign out button then click on options under it, you can customize what kind of notifications you can get.
