Hello, just felt like I should suggest a new prediction for the timeline. This one is looking more and more like it is going to happen.

This prediction is that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations and others will release a series of genetically modified mosquitoes, which using newly developed gene drive technology, will either A) cause the extinction of several of the major vectors of Malaria (and some other diseases like Dengue and Zika) including the Aedes albopictus and Anopheles, or B) induce a massive genetic change throughout the mosquito population that makes them unable to transmit vectors by the year 2029.

This looks like it is increasingly going to happen.  This timeline is highly variable as Bill Gates says the technology could be out there as soon as 2020 as well.

It should also be noted the risks this endeavor may cause, such as potentially disturbing ecological systems should it get to out of control.

Updates: My title should say: "... on Mosquitoes".

I would note the timeline already has this prediction:

But this is quite different and probably should be elaborated on separately. As it will likely be applied to more diseases than just Malaria and may involve the planned extinction of entire species or at least the mass genetic modification of them.

These predictions always take longer than expected to write. Here it is:

Thanks again Marc. :)
