The closest thing to the Singularity which is happening right now has to be China. China has had the quickest economic growth in the history of human kind. They have lifted (the people and to some degree the government) hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. They will construct by some estimates over 40% of all new buildings in the world. No civilization has ever been so rapidly modernized.

Of course this is not a technological singularity or any kind of singularity for that matter but in less than half a century China has gone from a state of inconsequential positioning to becoming in the next decade the largest economy in the history of human kind.

Look away for a year and you won't know what happened when it comes to Chinese growth. Entire industries are being swallowed up by this rising power and the effect is being felt not least of all by the United States whose own growth was unprecedented in its time.

What also cannot be understated is the absolute voracious devouring of resources that has to be sustained by the Chinese in order to keep growing their economy. Already they are the largest consumers of energy and many raw resources. This extreme hunger for resources has lead them to innovate even considering they are still a developing nation. The renewable industry and especially the solar industry epitomizes this phenomenon with the drastic reduction in prices enabled China. Their ability to churn out huge quantities of PV panels means that economies of scale take effect reducing the price of these products enormously. Not only this but they have had to streamline and refine their production process as well as the product itself. It is simply jaw dropping.

Surely this is more of a reference to how quickly things are moving in comparison to human history. Indeed, by that metric, our current rate of development is unfathomably quick. I even mentioned in my blog post how we are literally "millions of years more technologically developed" than our primate cousins.

Yes. Even if the singularity happens in 2050, from the perspective of someone looking at thousands of years of human history, they would say it was pretty much happening now.

I also think most people on Earth will be unaware that the singularity is happening when it does.

I don't even believe most people on Earth even know what the singularity even is.

But some of them at least should know about the "Rapture" right? Just simply tell them the Rapture is coming in 2045 and they'll believe you although for the very wrong reasons. :)

I'd say quite a few people know about the Rapture due to its impact on popular entertainment.

Which, may I point out, actually proves that the Tribulation couldn't happen, because billions of people would see it coming... but that's another story.

It hasn't really though, It may have overtaken you (And me!) but there are plenty of people who understand whats going on in their various fields.
