Charlottesville: man charged with murder after car rams counter-protesters at far-right event. 20-year-old James Fields of Ohio arrested on Saturday following attack at ‘Unite the Right’ gathering

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a car rammed into a group of people peacefully protesting against a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, killing one person and injuring 19.
In a separate incident, two police officers were killed when their helicopter crashed.
Police said the fatal victim of the car ramming was a 32-year-old woman and that they were attempting to notify her family before releasing more details.
Col Martin Kumer, the superintendent of Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, told the Guardian that 20-year-old James Fields of Ohio had been arrested following the attack.
“He has been charged with second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and failing to stop at an accident that resulted in a death,” Kumer said in an email.

White Supremacists Brutally Attack Black Teen Next To Charlottesville Police HQ

A disturbing video shows a group of white supremacists brutally attacking a young black man Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
The footage, recorded by The Daily Caller News Foundation, captures at least five individuals beating up on a young black man with heavy objects, including large wooden planks and sticks.

The incident took place in the early afternoon, shortly after police cleared out Emancipation Park (formerly Lee Park). A skirmish broke out inside a parking garage, right next door to the Charlottesville Police Department.

At least one of the men appeared to be holding a shield with the logo of American Vanguard, a fringe white nationalist group.

Jason Charter, a Washington, D.C.-based activist, said he was present outside the parking garage.

“When I arrived, I saw multiple members of a white supremacist group beating senselessly an African American man while the police stood there and watched,” Charter said.

White Nationalist Terror in The U.S. This Past Year

https://www.alternet...error-just-year

Introduction:

Webster’s Dictionary defines terrorism as the "calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature.” To hear neocons, Republicans, the Christian right and the so-called alt-right tell it, such violence is exercised primarily by Muslims and people of color. But history does not bear that out in the least, especially in the United States. For all the damage they've inflicted, Jihadist organizations such as ISIS, al-Qaeda and the Taliban do not have the market cornered on violent extremism. While it’s true that the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history—al-Qaeda’s assault on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 9/11—was carried out by far-right Islamists, most of the country’s recent domestic terrorist activity has come from a combination of white supremacists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis, extreme Christianists and far-right militia groups.

From the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, which killed 168 people, to Christianist Jim David Adkisson’s rampage at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian University Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, on July 27, 2008, far-right white terrorism has posed the most persistent domestic terrorist threat in the U.S. And under President Donald Trump, white extremists have grown emboldened, as evidenced by the murder of activist Heather D. Heyer in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August.

We may never know the motivations or political ideology of the Las Vegas shooter, but one thing is for certain: that is one mass killing that Fox News and Ann Coulter won’t be able to blame on people of color.

The article goes on to review nine specific incidents.

The principles of justice define an appropriate path between dogmatism and intolerance on the one side, and a reductionism which regards religion and morality as mere preferences on the other.   - John Rawls

'It just mowed everybody down': Pedestrians hit by SUV in Melbourne CBD

December 21 2017 - 6:14PM

Up to 15 people have been injured after pedestrians were mown down by a car near the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth streets in Melbourne's CBD.

A white SUV showed no signs of slowing as it mowed down a number of people at the busy intersection.

Police have arrested the driver of the Suzuki SUV along with a second man. Both are in police custody.

An officer at the scene has described it as a terrorist incident, but this has not been confirmed.

The real solution is to stop glorifying murderers and instead memorialize the victims. Of course, the government can't (and shouldn't) do anything about that. Some things are on society.

Don't need the government to arm them, just allow them to bring guns to defend their students. If you let them, they will do it.

Teaching kids to be more compassionate instead of teaching them to be thugs and monsters within our schools would go along ways.

We as a society accept way to much violence and "class" room culture trends to make such "cool". Yep, cool right up until some test filled asshole is killing you.

That too. Note that this isn't a problem for big government.

/\ They should tack the line "We know nothing will change and we know noone actually cares" onto the end of that headline.

The solution is to stop breeding violence in our culture. We can't expect it simply stop because we mark it illegal in the law books. This is much bigger than that, we have to change how we interact with one another and how we structure our institutions. The military does not stop wars or defend us, it starts them and emboldens them. The police do not stop crime they show up after a crime is committed to conduct further violence. Justice depends on one party being punished and hence more violence being enacted. Every time our "justified institutions" commit a violent act they cause more violence in our culture. We need to stop spreading fear and hate in the media. We need to get the root of the problem and snuff it out, that root is ourselves. We can change, we can reach a new level of human evolution and interaction. When the United States was the only world power with Nuclear weapons from 1945-1948 it chose not to dominate the world for its own benefit. No power could have stopped us, in another world there is a 1,000 year empire dominating the world with its head in Washington, but that's not our world. We have shown we can grow up and it's time we do it again.

Everyone on this forum is barking up a dead tree, more guns or less guns won't solve anything. The problem is more abstract than that, it has nothing to do with guns.

You know, it's interesting. According to this, http://www.nationmas...-million-people, America is no where near as violent as some other countries. In fact, it is pretty much ranked right in the middle. So why all the hysteria about these mass shootings by the left-wing mainstream media? 1) It is definitely sensational 2) The media wants you to think it is a bigger problem than it actually is, so that 3) Yes, they can take away citizens guns, so that government can have a monopoly on them.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if at least some of these shootings, such as the Las Vegas shooting, or the Florida (again) Airport shooting,  were Deep State Psy Ops. It shouldn't surprise anyone that many of these shooters had previous encounters with psychiatry, but were they really crazy, or were they targeted individuals who were being programmed to carry out these acts? Problem, reaction, solution.

I'd expect people to be pretty upset about mass shootings on both sides of the political spectrum. Sure they disagree on what to do about it, but "left wing hysteria" is not really a sensible description for what is effectively the media saying "people massacring children = bad"

The fact that the USA is barely halfway up the list is not a good thing!

It has one of the highest GDPs in the world and its not involved in any active civil wars or insurrections, there are no massive drug cartels owning large chunks of the country etc.

Right wing Americans are so weird, on the one hand you're all "Make America great again!" but then you're all "oh we're beating Turkmenistan but just behind Georgia, and significantly behind every major developed nation in the world, that seems like where we belong, no sense trying to improve"

EDIT: USA Has the highest GDP in the world, I mean GDP per capita
