Really surprised how little coverage this particular story has been getting in the media considering how big a disaster this is becoming. For those who are unaware over the last 2 days a series of fires has popped up on the northern end of the San Francisco Bay Area and last night high winds propelled many fires into multiple communities in the area proper and the fires are becoming an increasingly large threat to the rest of the San Francisco area. Thousands of structures have been destroyed and at least 4 killed and 100 injured so far with many feared missing. Toxic smoke and ash is falling all over the city of San Francisco causing major air quality problems for millions with no end in sight. Could be one of the worst wildfire disasters in American history.

Fires are currently burning in the city of Santa Rosa, in the Napa area and a new fire even closer to San Francisco has recently been reported and winds are pushing many of the fires south-east towards the city.

Is there any reason to suspect these fires were caused by arson?

I doubt it but you never know.

There has been reports that 2 of the fires last night started mysteriously around the same time. Can't be ruled out and there was no known lightning in the area at the time.

Gov. Brown declares state of emergency for Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties
Source: Santa Rosa Press Democrat

SONOMA — California Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties because of wildfires that the governor says are threatening thousands of homes.

Brown issued the declaration on Monday, as multiple fires forced people to evacuate their homes.

Napa County Fire Chief Barry Biermann said more than 50 structures had been destroyed, but there were no reports of injuries or deaths.

Residents describe terrifying middle-of-the-night scrambles to flee from raging wildfires.

A lot of times when people think of wildfires they tend to be disillusioned by the idea that the fires are in forest areas and rarely impact dense urban areas more than smoke inhalation.

It's terrible when you see the total destruction that these fires actually cause:

Napa and Sonoma wildfires destroy wineries, bars and hotels; many others threatened
Source: mercurynews.com

Updated Tuesday 9:10 a.m. Alison deGrassi of Visit Mendocino confirmed that two Redwood Valley wineries were destroyed by the fires — Frey Winery and Oster Wine Cellars, owned by Kenny and Teresa Oster. The vineyards at Masut Vineyard and Winery in Redwood Valley also reportedly burned, deGrassi said, but she had yet to confirm that report.

Updated Monday 10 p.m. Pete Hoffmann, owner of Napa’s Aum Cellars, reported Monday night that his winery survived the fire. On Facebook, Hoffmann posted, “Sheep, chickens, vineyards, home and winery are all good. Many neighbors houses burned to the ground. No power and no way to get up there to do punch downs, but we’re thankful yet saddened for the level of destruction around our community and state.”

It's really devastating, indeed.

It's not even over yet.

Now 29+ dead. These fires are now worse than the 1991 Oakland firestorm which was the previous worst fire in California history.

Fire death toll now stands at 38, 400 are missing. More evacuations are being started as just when they thought they were getting some of the fires under control a new one has started near Skyhawk and Mountain Hawk requiring more evacuations.

5700 buildings destroyed now with 1.2 billion in damage in Santa Rosa ALONE. The biggest wildfire disaster in modern U.S. history.
