Will science and technological development continue for as long as humans are around, or will it plateau out and end up like the Star Wars society?

I would say more like Babylon 5/Battlestar Galactica, but yeah I think physics imposes limits on technological progress

No, but there will come a point when the cutting edge advances beyond the reach of baseline humans. When that happens, progress will slow to incremental for baseline tech, as most new innovations are reverse-engineering posthuman devices or filling a few select niches. But at higher toposophic levels, the fun will continue.

that firm a believer in Orions arm huh? :)

But yeah, technological progress will never cease. Even if the actual tech itself doesnt become more sophisticated we will continue to find new ways of using it by remixing what we already got. And even then there might be a breakthrough that propells us forward. And with the advancement and the remixing will come dark and terrible ways of using what we know that will be used purely because they exist.

Depends on the country in question. There are possibilities that some may stagnate where as others may is it reverse to a earlier time.

At some point, there won't be anywhere else for us to go because we've reached the limits of physics.  Every form of physics at that. And even if we found some way to break physics just to continue sci-tech advancement, there will inevitably be a limit to that as well. You can only make a circle so perfect.

True there has to be some theoretical limit at which point we know how to do anything that can be done according to the laws of physics, which we would also know in complete detail. Every experiment anyone does has results that fit neatly into our universal theory of everything.

Whether we will ever get there is another question.

The universe is still so very mysterious to figure out, that I dont think it's possible to determine this yet. If you read up on M-theory, it'll keep your maw open to the possibilities.
Everything is predefined.
