US and China racing to deploy quantum ghost imaging in satellites for stealth plane tracking

China is developing a new type of spy satellite using ghost imaging technology which could spot stealth aircraft and see through smokescreens and camouflage.

Above – A 2009 US Air Force Research lab presenter on quantum ghost imaging satellites.

Quantum ghost imaging can achieve unprecedented sensitivity by detecting not just the extremely small amount of light straying off a dim target, but also its interactions with other light in the surrounding environment to obtain more information than traditional methods.

You know how madly futuristic this would sound to someone from 1967, right? Or even 1992 I'd wager. Oh, hell, even now.

Presumably this will be followed by another leap in stealth technology, but what?

So, after the stealth fighter... there's the quantum fighter (with anti-quantum ghosting capabilities)?

Israeli scientists make invisibility cloak breakthrough

The tech works like this: An “operational cloaking chip” deflects and scatters light away from the chip’s surface, so it is not detected. “The light does not interact with the object, thus resulting in the object’s invisibility.

Such a cloaking chip could be used as an extension of current technologies such as radar-absorbing paint used on stealth aircraft, local optical camouflage or electromagnetic wave scattering.

There you go.  Literally invisible stealth craft.

Is there even a point in optical cloaking though? I could see a use for it for land forces, but ships and aircraft already engage at beyond visual range.

Visual range also overlaps a little bit with ultraviolet and infrared, so cloaking technology will immensely benefit those craft in those areas.

The quantum satellites look for small changes in light for stealth crafts, with invisible stealth crafts, these satellites would be rendered useless.

This is another really futuristic thing that would give just about anyone future-shock.  Even if it is just in experimental stages, just that the concept is possible is amazing.  Invisibility was a super power in comic books less than 50 years ago.

I mean beyond visual range as in over the horizon. You can't see them whether they're cloaked or not, or even painted hot pink. They're too far away: Beyond-visual-range

But yes, maybe it could stop these quantum satellites at least.

making vehicles smaller. Small drone bombers for example, or sub-launched suicide drones / slaughterbots.

Or cyberwarfare continues dominating the sino-american war that is ongoing.
