Hi guys,

Do you mind if we share a discussion about if various important historical events took different turns, whether they be slight or major and how it would affect life afterwards up until today?

For example :
  • What if Hannibal managed to defeat Rome?
  • What If America won Vietnam?
  • What if the Printing Press was invented in Rome?
  • What if Imperial Russia beat Japan in the Russo-Japanese war? http://en.wikipedia....so-Japanese_War
Note : I do not wish to talk about an alternate outcome for WWII because that's already pretty much been done to death.

Perhaps World War I would've never happened.

Also, If the Soveits beat The United States to the moon, perhaps the Cold war would've lasted into the 21st century (assuming Nuclear war didn't break out eventually).

And if The Confederacy won the Civil war, they would've temporarily been independant because they likely would not have had a strong economy and rejoined the US around the 1880's. As a result, it would've postponed America reaching status as a superpower and legal slavery would've not been abolished worldwide until the early 20th century.

What if Jesus was never conceived?
What if the wright brothers never tried to build their plane?
What if the US lost the war of independence?
What if Australia was divided between the French and the British?
What if the Russians had captured Von Braun?
What if marijuana had always been legal?

What if Napoleon completely took over Europe in the 1810's?
What if funding to the Apollo program was never cut of in the 1970's?
What if humanity never fell into the dark ages for almost 1000 years?

Then Islam would've never spread and the Arabs would've adopted Christianity

Canada will be much larger and the British Empire would've lasted another 40 years.
We would never have flying machines or spaceships.
The drug wars of today will be much less severe.

What if funding to the Apollo program was never cut of in the 1970's?

We'd have moon bases by now.

What If Hitler wasn't born or became a Artist?

Some other fascist individual would've became leader of Germany and start WWII.

Also, if America had won Vietnam, all of South East Asia would've been capitalist democracies and the Soviet Union would've never invaded Afganistan (thus leading to no 9/11) and it would've collapsed sooner. Additionally the Shah of Iran would've remained in power because America would've not been crippled and demoralized after loosing Vietnam, thus their support would have been a lot stronger.

If the Printing press was invented in Rome, then the Dark age would've not been quite as severe, because a lot more people would have been literate, tons of knowledge would've not been lost and perhaps Latin would've lasted a little longer.

Wait, what?
at the very worst early flight might've been delayed a few years.
That's like saying if Mr Caveman hadn't invented the wheel, no-one else ever would've thought of it and we wouldn't have any cars.

But more importantly:
What if Martin Luther King had been Mexican

I'm pretty sure the first two wouldn't make any noticeable difference to the world other than some minor popular culture issues, though perhaps someone rich on the titanic may have founded a large investment bank...

As for Mexico discovering the new world, I have a sneaky suspicion they perhaps found it before any europeans did..

Then we'd never have Microsoft.

Just as the idea of Hitler winning WWII, the idea of USA vs USSR Nuclear War has already been done to death.

Than India would've been controlled by Britain for at least another Century.
