The 'Doomsday shelter' being built below Kansas prairie where millionaires will be able to sit out the Apocalypse in style

By Eddie Wrenn
09:14, 11 April 2012
  • Four buyers have already invested in condos below the ground
  • Fears range from pandemics, terrorism and solar flares
  • Indoor farm to provide fish and veg for 70 people for as long as necessary

When you buy a house, you end up feeling like you will be paying it off until the world ends.

Well, how about one of these luxurious condos, which come with all the mod-cons, as well as a pool, a movie theater and a library - oh, and a guarantee that it will survive Doomsday if and when that fateful day comes.

For these luxury flats, deep below the Kansas prairie in the shaft of an abandoned missile silo, are meant to withstand everything from economic collapse and solar flares to terrorist attacks and pandemics.

Wow!An underground building!Pretty cool,it could be very useful in case of superpopulation and lack of space, but how would people feel in a place without windows and you don't have notion of day and night?

They wouldn't mind as their only priority is to survive the devastation that is occuring above.

Kansas, of all states, realistically thinking about science and the future? Haha, what? When did this happen?

I think it's a bit silly that they're talking about this structure. Since they disclosed the information, in the event of a breakdown the savage tribes of the wastes will be looking for it amongst the ruins of our civilization.

Anyway, I think it's very cool and there should be more vaults like this (they just need to be secret).
I make an animated series about time travel and the future of humanity called ExoTemporal Excursion. You'll like it. If you're into that sort of thing. I also draw.

I've always wondered if it would be worth it living past the apocalypse. Unless you had no friends to begin with it would seem damn depressing, so you'd probably have to cut yourself off early just in case. Unless of course, they could build one big enough for everyone you really care about, but that doesn't seem practical...

Bomb shelters http://www.hardenedstructures.com/

If I was a millionaire I would buy an island and hire that company to build a bomb shelter. Not that I would need it for the apocalypse this year.

All the more reason to colonize the moon, or Mars for that matter!
