Most people agree religion will always exist even if only on a small scale. Some form of religious extremism will also exist in the forseeable future, notably the Islamic kind. While these groups will never develop their own technology and might even in principle oppose new technologies, as we have learnt multiple times from the past, they will happily buy it, steal it or accept it as a gift. So it seems inevitable that once we're regularly travelling through space, so will the Space Taliban. What kind of things would they get up to in space? Would they make suicide ships and crash them into planets at the fastest possible speeds? Would women be allowed on their space ships? Would they have their own planet or would they be constantly moving onto other peoples planets trying to convert them. Also how would their praying work? assuming they still have to pray 3 times a day would they just stick with the earth calendar/clock forever? Would they have to position all their ships to face Earth/Mecca every time? These are all important yet terrifying questions and I'm sure there are many more that need to addressed before we can feel truly safe in space.

I'm sure the "Space Taliban" will be relatively primitive during their time, but they will probably be more technologically advanced than the present Western countries, if not morally or culturally superior.

SPACE TALIBAN???!!!
Posted Image

I guess they would pray according to Earth's time. They would always pray facing towards Earth (praying looking up, down etc) and they would probably have their home planet be on Earth. Earth is our first planet and where the religion started. I guess terrorist groups like Metroid "Space Pirates Terrorists" would have their own world they would do evil on.

This is pretty ridiculous. Firstly, personalized space transportation/technology will not be happening for a VERY VERY LONG TIME, and I'm sure any planet could defend itself by then against a petty asteroid or some other stupid thing like trying to fly a space ship into a planet. This kind of thing is really only feasible by a government or well organized entity and probably is not a feasible scenario for the fringe group religions would like be.

It not happening for a long time is irrelevant. Religion will still exist. They will use technologies to terrorize. It won't be as big of an issue for people like 9/11 but small murders and raids might.

Nah, I'm sure it will be fine, I've heard that members of the Taliban don't believe that space exist, it's all zionist propaganda designed to give power to the Jews, so they can't very well travel there can they? ;)
All right, brain. You don't like me and I don't like you, but let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer.

The timeline says at some point that here are no more crimes since computers will be everywhere.
So space talibans might have hard times killing people.

Well, there will still be crime possible once computers are everywhere. In space I imagine it will be easier to escape the changes on earth. In fact, the proliferation of computers might be the very reason people turn to terrorism. Some kind of space terrorism seems reasonably possible in the future.

Space Tallibans? Suicide space ships? Praying towards interplanetary mecca? is this a joke

I agree, the key words are some kind of terrorism is possible. This particular scenario is unlikely in my opinion.

Was 9/11 a joke?

If someone had told you 600 years ago that terrorists would fly giant metal objects into insanely tall buildings killing thousands of people would you think they were joking. Terrorism is real, and likely always will be, just because certain technology doesn't currently exist doesn't mean it won't be used in this way in the future.

I wholeheartedly second that.

^In 600 years they will be using death stars (the ones in star wars) to make stars go Super/Hypernova. This will effectively wipe out all life with a 1000 LY radius.
