I imagine that, at least in the first world, accidents and suicide will make up the bulk of deaths. Not to say that accidents will be a bigger block (it will most likely be significantly smaller). The percentage it takes up will grow.

In 2100 people will die when hackers delete your personality from your digital brains.
That graph is pretty neat, the deaths have really dropped significantly in the past 100 years.

Just a random thought, but if people were to delete your personality (if that is even possible) than even if you have a backup it won't be "you". I think that it is only possible to not die by never loosing continuity while converting the substrate that your consciousnesses is stored in. Biological to artificial by gradual replacement and the like, once you loose your consciousness all at once (copy and paste) it will be just as good as you, but won't actually be you.

^this and why I think no one will ever want to use teleport technology that makes a copy of the person and deletes the original.

Do death rate can halve every 100 years?

Like for 2100 is 300, then in 2200 150... and so on?
Is this Superman? Is this Gandalf? Is this Mewto? No its 25th century average citizen in early 21st century!

this got me thinking. New Zealand has the least amount of urbanization relative to other first world countries and most of their livestock and food comes from their farm-fed meadows and mountaintops and yet they are number 3 in the world in cancer incidence rates. what gives?

Cancer doesn't just come from food. It could be genetic.

Causes of cancer.
  • Growing older
  • Tobacco
  • Sunlight
  • Ionizing radiation
  • Certain chemicals and other substances
  • Some viruses and bacteria
  • Certain hormones
  • Family history of cancer
  • Alcohol
  • Poor diet, lack of physical activity, or being overweight
New Zealand is apparently number four. The USA is number 7.

In 2008 ~22% of the total population were cigarette users in New Zealand. http://socialreport....te-smoking.html
In 2008 ~19% of the total population were cigarette users in the USA. http://www.cdc.gov/t...oking/index.htm

That's just smoking.

This is embarrassing but... I don't understand the y-axis here. Number of deaths per 100,000 in that year? So 0.971% people died in the year 1900? I think that sounds like what it says, I just want to make sure.

Makes sense. We've found cures for many diseases and we're much better in preventing accidents so we finally live long enough for cancer and heart disease to get at us.

History does not automatically follow a curve upward. Our current civilisation is something entirely new, but it is violating Earth's carrying capacity and reducing Earth's bio-regeneration capacity for every year, meaning that it is destroying it's own base. If we somehow can get our usage of planetary resources below 100% of Earth's regeneration capacity, we could be fine, but we need to get there.

If we don't, you could count on reduced standards of living for a lot of people.

We cheat by modifying plants and animals to produce faster.

Going on a diet works for an individual when wanting to cut back fat and thus heart disease. Simple math says that everyone would need to cut down to the extreme just because there are so many of us.

We need to filter C02, GM food and grow meat products in-vitro. If we use energy it comes off as heat. Even electrical appliances cause this. So in the future energy = temperature. We can't use the equivalent of a star's energy output without frying the planet (Type II civilization). We need to get rid of this by shipping crap off planet or recycling the gases and trapping heat.
