Hey,
I wanted to introduce myself. I am Lily, 18, from Berlin and I am very interested in future technology.

I've always wanted to live long enough to see new scientific advances and, most importantly for me, medical breakthroughs. I was no healthy child and it was quite difficult for me to see my grandparents die of different illnesses. So, I've been interested in this field for quite some time now, even though I did not do a lot of research in the past as I thought it was strange and... well, not appropriate for my age. I felt like I was strange and alone in this. None of my friends is concerned with this...

The thing that kickstarted my interest in future technologies and developments was Mass Effect. *laugh* (Like so much, that I took the time to research a bit. I know it's not scientific, but it felt nice to see how it COULD be and I suddenly wished there were some things such as Omni-Gel.)
After playing the series (and reading some comments and discussions about the technology presented in the games) I realized that there are a lots of people like me. People who really WANT development.
And so I found this website. It's thrilling to see all the topics on this board and... it's like a candyshop :D So many things to see, and I do not know where to start....

The main topic I have been reading about is stem cell treatment. I thing it has a huge potential, although sometimes it really sounds too good to be true. I am also very interested in astronomy. Just yesterday I read an article about the James-Webb-Space-Telescope. Things like that really get me excited :)

I am still at school, but I'd really like to work in a field related to future advancements... We'll see.

Well, enough about me. See you on the boards :)
[My English is not that good, but I try, so, sorry for any errors you spot.]

Welcome to the forums! :bye:(Yay I'm not the new guy anymore!) And let me say, you're not the only one who looks toward the tech of science fiction. Whenever I'm curious about the tech in Halo, Mass Effect, Warhammer and other sci-fi, I just have to look it up!

Hello Lily,
Welcome with us. I am almost an expert in stem cells treatment. I developed that passion over my health problems as well. Therefore we can talk a lot about the possibility that future has to heal pathologies.
I am not very optimistic at the moment, in the sense that advancements are slow, but progress exhists.
I hope to hear from you.
p.s Don't worrk I make many spelling and grammar mistakes too. I could avoid them if I would read proof my messagges.
But anyway as long as people understand us...it is fine!
Have fun on this site.

Thanks, all of you :) It's a very warm welcome! Danke :D

@Italian Ufo: I'd like that. I know that it may take decades before we see stem cell research come to fruition, but I am not losing hope. After all, the knoweldge is advancing and new discoveries are made every month. I try to remain positive.
May I ask what your area of interest is with stem cells? E.g. cardiology etc?

Hello lily, I am mostly intrested in orthopedics but I know lots about trials on other organs such as diabetes, eyes, heart. I even know even pepole who work directly in the field.
I like your attitude. Never lose hope and never have fear.
