all look like the characters that make up other words. Then we are shown J K L M, which make up their own words, with N being central in all these collections or words. All I can think of is that maybe J K L M, N are shown so they can be omitted, since the top letters look like a central index of characters. The only thing I can think of is maybe converting the top 24 letters into our traditional alphabet and use JKML collections to be sorted into Os and Ps which will be the 25th and 26th characters by taking out the JKML and N letters and using the collections of characters to make the O and P characters (but this from outer space not from people who definitely speak English.) Another thing I thought from looking at the DNA representation was some kind of chemical communication, but if I was an alien I would start with Hydrogen and nothing sticks out as being Hydrogen.

Could those letters be numbers? I guess the most logical assumption is that aliens would try to communicate using math language.

And now what? We have to use the first sequence to replace the letters we already know with numbers.. then figure out what J K L M are? N is distinguished and present in every J K L M sequence and almost always second to the last number.. so it stands for something constant? I just cant figure out what..

It's a very good observation, it sort of makes sense but it's like jumping numbers
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,21,22

So what if B is 0?

I'm pretty sure all aliens use base 8 maths, it's way more sensible than base 10

Shimmy is lightbringer !! I just had a short introduction to base 8 (Im lacking some math knowledge appearantly). It all makes sense now. As it seems if the first 3 lines are counting in base 8, the JKLM lines are equations.

I'm sorry I made some mistakes while converting initial message to base 8.
Initial version had base 7 and had least-significant-first notation. Just to make it harder for engineering students.

Hmm well.. my original idea about O and P was that they are Thruth and False indicators. I dropped it later coz equations didnt fit but with fixing the second line.. is it possible that u messed the places of O and P in line 3?:p

crap... not places, but last equation. It was meant to be wrong... As I said it's all because i rushed conversion for this forum, with 8 base. I hope there are no more mistakes after this.

I checked the original message now.. why would base 8 be easier than base 7? :p They are exactly the same for me :D

Base 7 is disgustingly inconvenient. You can't split it in any nice way without creating a horrible mess. The cool thing I find about 8 is you can half it three times and still have a whole number (With 10 you can only half it once). This just makes pretty much all maths much prettier and more sensible. Saying that I suppose base 16 could be pretty cool.

I'm assuming this is similar to why computing power seems to always work in 8's and 16's multiples?
