What is PoundWorld? What is a work trial, for that matter?
Poundworld would be the equivalent of a 99 cent or $1 store in the US. A work trial I'm guessing is a probationary period where they see whether they're suitable for the job?
All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible. - T. E. Lawrence

Most work trials in the UK include a 2-3 week period where you don't get paid anything (except your normal unemployment benefits) and at the end of it its up to them if they want to consider offering you an interview for a job.
Well my Work Trial Shimmy is only a day/evening so they must be in a rush to get someone then.

Whaa? So first, a dollar store is stuck up enough to make you audition to work there then they don't even pay you for your work?
Is this common there?

If there's enough unemployment they can do what they like really. In some cases the job centre sort of forces you into doing it as well, although there were some complaints/protests about it lately with people trying to compare it to slavery. Perhaps this is why time travellers is only one day now.
