Where I live, in summer it gets hot. Really stinking hot and in winter, I freeze - not as bad as other countries, but it gets down to a few degrees and rarely but occasionally a few below. I live nearby a little shop which has a vet, a pizza shop, fish and chips, a bank and dentist and an IGA (a food shop). I've been to the US - to Tampa and Orlando and I don't know how places like London or other US cities measure up, but the roads here are nowhere near as big. That's the thing that really struck me is how big their roads were. It was like a bloody runway. Everything was really spaced apart as well and that's not like Perth at all - it's a small city, the CBD is cramped and the suburbs are windy and narrow.
The food here isn't exciting. I'm on holiday at the moment, but back at boarding the food is decent but repetitive. There's a hungry jacks (burger king for the rest of the world) nearby and other boarders probably keep it afloat, I swear that place feeds half the boys in Perth. The school I go to is an all-boys school by the way, I went to a mixed school from year 1-10 then moved for years 11 and 12, I'm in year 12 at the moment.

I'm not going to make it sound like Perth is the home to world-class drug cartels or gangs of mercenaries, you won't be gunned down if you go out at night, but there are plenty of fights in the city, in northbridge. Also hear about a lot of stabbings as well. But I've never been stabbed so it's not like it happens to everyone.

Perth has a population of a little under 2 million. It's the most isolated capital city in the world, the nearest capital city is Singapore, and after that it's canberra - Australia's capital. With the mining boom going on, living prices have just taken off. In the US, I got a packet of 20 razors for $1 (a weird example, I know) and here in Aus, I was looking at buying four for $3.50.

In case you're wondering, (I'm assuming you're all smarter than this, but I have been asked before) we don't ride kangaroos to school.. Not anymore, we all ride emus. They're faster. Only dorks ride kangaroos. A couple of years back, we all tried riding koalas but they can't really stand up once you get on em, so we gave it up. They also sleep 22 hours per day so you're lucky if you catch em at the right time.

Actually that's another difference between Aus and the US. It's not just Perth, it's the same in Melbourne, but in the US there are enormous trucks everywhere. It was a real shocker when I got there, but on the way to my uncle's place from the airport there were trucks going around with 6 wheels. 2 in the front and 4 at the back and people drove these behemoth bloody juggernauts to the shops and everywhere else. In Aus, the petrol price would put you in debt until the second coming for christ. Perth is full of medium cars. They're everywhere. In fact, lately I've been seeing the odd smart-car roaming around. hahaha I'm not going to lie to you, they look ridiculous.

Soo.. What's your home and city like?

My original home was in Baltimore, Maryland. It's a nice and temperate suburb, my house had a forest in the backyard. Temperature ranges from about 80-95 on average summer days and 25-40 on average winter days. When my parents moved into the neighborhood it was full of old people, so they figured they would pass away soon enough, making way for new families like us. Not the case. Technology extended their lives, and 19 years later, only recently have the new families started moving in. For this reason, I never grew up with a real childhood friend. Meh.

Downtown Baltimore is a pretty crime-ridden place. I heard a statistic somewhere that it's like the third worst area for crime.

Now I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I attend the Art Institute of Philadelphia. I like Philadelphia, it offers a welcome change of pace for me, where the suburb was very quiet and boring. I live pretty much right next to the city hall, in the dorm building.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot to mention that one of my old neighbors back in the old suburb had an emu farm. No joke. I could have ridden an emu to my old high school if I wanted and he would have let me because he was just cool like that. And then everyone would be all like, "Hey, did you see that guy with the ostrich?" And then I would be all like, "It's an EMU!!!" and emu-kick them in the face. Yeah. Shame I never actually did that, though. I'm pretty sure emus aren't allowed in that place.

Ooh, maybe they're allowed for my dorm!
I make an animated series about time travel and the future of humanity called ExoTemporal Excursion. You'll like it. If you're into that sort of thing. I also draw.

Don't get too attached though, I hear turtles are the new thing in South Africa. I'm going to get a snapping turtle. He's going to be called Charlie.
