What if in the future genetic , hormonal , and psychological therapies would be invented that "cure" homosexual people and turn them into heterosexuals? Do you think this would be eventually offered as a legitimate medical procedure? Would you allow it?

Do you think there would actually be some homosexuals  willing to change their sexuality? It is still a for psychological sterility that prevents you having  biological children after all.

IMHO if in the future there would be extreme human  dieouts and low birth rates it is possible that this might be forcibly endorsed as an additional effort  to make the population reproduce more.

And no I'm not homophobic , I'm just curious.

1. Yes and Yes.

2. Probably, though possibly not very much of them. Also, gay people can still have their own biological children.

3. It's possible, but again, as per my point in #2, it would be unnecessary to do this, and also, a cure to aging could significantly help us avoid population decline(s) if necessary.

For the record, I would probably not want to change my sexuality, but I would like to feminize my brain, if possible.

We will never be able to "cure" homosexuals or invent such a cure because they're not ill, you asshole. This way of thinking is what keeps harming the LGBT community /sigh. Seriously, what is it with the homophobes in this site? Can't the mods delete the offensive threads or something?

Why not, if it will be:

1) Voluntarily

2) The reverse (turn hetero- into homo- sexuals) option must be also possible, just for the great justice

Do you think there would actually be some homosexuals  willing to change their sexuality?

Only very few of them, i think. Only out of curiosity or something like that.

...they're not ill, you asshole.... Can't the mods delete the offensive threads or something?

I don't see anything really offensive here. There is such a thing as freedom of speech and homosexuality is definitely not a taboo.

That's the reason why "cure" is in quotation marks - he realizes that it's not a fully accurate word, but it's the closest approximation that comes to mind. I hate homophobia as well, but I don't think there's any such thing on display here. It's mainly a discussion as to whether homosexuals who wish they could have their own biological children would be willing to change their sexuality once the means to do so are developed.

Most of you are saying that homosexuality is a disease or something and needs a medical cure, Gay people chose this way and I doubt there will be medicine to cure it and shouldn't be invented.

Indeed, I'm a bit unhappy about the premise of this thread.

It is offensive and alot of people are unhappy or extremely angry over the premise of this thread. I know i'm among those unhappy and angry with this thread.

Edit: Freedom of speech is only is only words. There is no true " freedom of speech" espcially considering the future is rapidly closing in. For those who say otherwise just take a good look at our  especially america's action as of late. They quite easily took away those rights.

Someone is offended, let's just change the wording to:

"What if in the future genetic, hormonal, and psychological therapies would be invented that allow homosexual people to change their orientation, and vise versa? Do you think there would actually be some people willing to change their sexuality?"

Do you still think this "should never be invented"? Possible, but SHOULD NOT BE INVENTED, because of...  of what?... sometimes you amaze me, people.

Saying too cure someone when it's clearly there own choice too be such a way IS offensive.and yes i'm aware of the sarcasm in the first quote but that is not the issue. Quite alot can be simply offended simply by see it grouped together. Also chances are there will either attempts too do such a thing by people some time or another regardless what people want too or not. It is becoming such a world.

IMO  the main reason I think if such technology did exist I would find it legitimate is because changing ones sexuality(voluntarily) won't negatively affect the rest of society.

I have nothing against changing sexuality vice versa . I was expecting for this thread to be discussing if the technology to this is feasible and if yes what would it be, what is the current progress, etc.

On the "saying to cure is offensive" part, can't the  PC crowd read apostrophes?

Indeed.Obviously homosexuality isn't a disease,it's just a sexual option.But it's not considered normal.They say normal is being heterosexual only.Even bisexuality isn't considered normal.

Yes.  I would view this as legitimate and allow it.  However,  there would have to be some extreme safeties and restrictions on it.  Prime being bigoted parents forcing their homosexual to have the procedure and turn straight.  Furthermore it will open up a whole can of worms, since in this scenario people who argue that homosexuality is a "choice" will for once, be right.  This could be a devastating blow to gay rights.  So I would hope this procedure would only come into being AFTER large scale homophobia has been wiped from the planet.  So, it should be invented.  But it would be a disaster if it was invented now.

Would some homosexuals try it? Yes.  Would some heterosexuals try it? Yes.  I'm sure the numbers would be much higher if it was an easily reversible procedure as well.

I wouldn't care.

Also, I want to point out that asking about ways to change one's sexuality is a legitimate question here. Heck, I asked this question here a little earlier. Just because one is asking about changing one's sexuality does not necessarily mean that he views certain sexual orientations as bad and/or wrong.

They can use IVF if necessary, and also, it is worth pointing out that they can invite an opposite-sex person to their house, pleasure themselves, and then rub their "fertile material" on the necessary parts of this opposite-sex individual. There does not necessarily need to be any actual sex involved in this. (Sorry for being graphic, but this was necessary in order to answer KB's question.)

Ridiculous. What if someone told you they could turn you gay? You wouldn't want to do it, would you?
