Richest 1% now owns half the world's wealth
Source: USA Today

The wealthiest 1% of the world's population now owns more than half of the world's wealth, according to a new report. The total wealth in the world grew by 6% over the past 12 months to $280 trillion, marking the fastest wealth-creation since 2012, according to a new report from Credit Suisse. More than half of the $16.7 trillion in new wealth was in the U.S., which grew $8.5 trillion richer.

But that wealth around the world is increasingly concentrated among those at the top. The top 1% now own 50.1% of the world's wealth, up from 45.5% in 2001. "So far, the Trump presidency has seen businesses flourish and employment grow, though the ongoing supportive role played by the Federal Reserve has undoubtedly played a part here as well, and wealth inequality remains a prominent issue," said Michael O'Sullivan, chief investment officer for International Wealth Management at Credit Suisse. "Looking ahead, however, high market valuations and property prices may curb the pace of growth in future years."

The world's millionaires are expected to do the best in the coming years. There are now 36 million millionaires in the world and their numbers are expected to grow to 44 million by 2022.

Aging Japan Wants Automation, Not Immigration

Maybe they should have some more babies? That is quite the idea, right?

Don't be absurd! There's no time to raise children properly and have both parents work 100 hours a week!

Its going to have to be robots, with robots their employers could fire half their employees, meaning only one parent would need to work 100 hours a week, while the other one looked after the children.

Time for Japan to elect social democrats and demand strong unions and for the workers to be treated with respect.

Poll: Majority of American voters favor stricter gun laws
BY BRETT SAMUELS at the Hill

http://thehill.com/h...ricter-gun-laws

"SNIP............

Ninety-five percent of voters support universal background checks for gun purchases, including 94 percent of those who live in gun-owning households, according to the latest Quinnipiac University survey.

That marks the highest level of support since Quinnipiac first asked the question in February 2013 in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead.

A majority of Americans continue to say it’s too easy to buy a gun in the U.S., but most are skeptical that stricter gun laws would help prevent mass shootings, according to the Quinnipiac poll.

About 60 percent of voters support stricter gun laws overall, and 65 percent back a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons — another record high in the poll.

Way of the Future: A New Church Worships an AI God

Anthony Levandowski, the former Google and Uber executive currently at the center of a bombshell lawsuit filed by Waymo, says he’s serious about starting a religion centered around super-smart artificial intelligence.

This thing is still circulating around, eh? I'm thinking that there isn't going to be one AI-worshipping cult, but a whole bunch of them worshipping different ais like there are hundreds of different folk religions. Hell, high ais might worship even higher ais as divine entities.

^^^Yes, I can see the Chinese worshiping a Chinese based AGI, the Russians worshiping a Russian based AGI, and of course the ever spiritually needy Americans worshiping an American based AGI, etc.

I'm not sure we will see out and out worship of AI's among most people, but at the same time, people will end up relying on their AI assistant in their phone for almost everything. Making them far more dependent on their new AI than any religion.

But what if all of said AGIs fuse together into one monumental ASI with a god complex and these 'religions' were just a ruse by the AIs themselves to sow enough division and discord to allow the new AI God to offer "The Solution"?

Morgan Stanley had a ten year forecast where the mid-range had China surpassing the World Bank High income level in 2027.

At the end of 2016, the exchange was 6.92 CNY to one US dollar. Currently the exchange rate is 6.60 CNY to one US dollar.

That's odd. The CIA world factbook lists China's GDP per capita at $15,000, and it has been above 10k for quite some time. That being said, I've heard talk that China has been manipulating it's currency, so I wonder what the truth really is.

Conservative Rasmussen Poll shows - America Overwhelmingly Thinks FOX News is the real Fake News"

% of respondents who think the following outlets are ‘Fake News”

    Fox News - 40%
    CNN - 25%
    MSNBC - 9%
    ABC - 4%
    CBS 3%
    NBC 2%

The Winner of the 1st Annual Fake News Trophy Is …

Thursday, November 30, 2017

Voters agree with President Trump that so-called “fake news” is a serious problem in America today. If a Fake News Trophy were to be awarded this year, the winners should be Fox News or CNN depending on which political party you’re in.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 65% of Likely U.S. Voters consider fake news a big problem, with 42% who say it’s a Very Big one. Thirty-two percent (32%) disagree, but that includes only 16% who believe fake news is not a big problem at all. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Trump suggested earlier this week that the media should award an annual Fake News Award for the worst coverage of his presidency but left Fox News out of the running since it is the only network the president and his supporters believe gives him fair coverage. But 40% of all voters think Fox News should be the winner of the first annual Fake News Trophy.

It would probably make sure some malleable dupe like Donald Trump is elected president.

Japan’s Slow Demographic Apocalypse – 90,000 per year are dying and rotting alone in Japan
brian wang | December 1, 2017 |
1

Experts estimate about 30,000 people per year are dying alone in Japan and many have bodies discovered weeks later. Yoshinori Ishimi, who runs the Anshin Net service that cleans up afterwards, believes the true figure is “twice or three times that” (60,000 to 90,000)

A combination of uniquely Japanese cultural, social and demographic factors have compounded the problem.

Japan’s social safety net has failed to keep pace – with the burden still on the family to look after the elderly.

There is a rising of single people and the size of the family becoming smaller.

Austria Is Now 16th European Country to Grant Marriage Equality

DEC. 5, 2017

Austria joined the ranks of countries recognizing a universal right to marriage on Tuesday, after its highest court ruled that barring same-sex couples from wedding was discriminatory.

The ruling, announced on Tuesday, noted that same-sex couples have increasingly been granted rights equal to those of married, heterosexual couples since civil partnerships were permitted in 2010. Those rights include adoption and support for fertility treatments.

That left sexual orientation as the main difference between those allowed marry and those who could enter only into a legal partnership, which the court found discriminatory.

“Today, the differentiation between marriage and legally registered partnerships can no longer be upheld without discriminating against same-sex couples,” the court said. “For the separation into two legal institutions implies that homosexual individuals are not equal to heterosexuals.”

The court recommended that marriage be opened to all couples starting in 2019, unless Austrian lawmakers change legislation to stipulate otherwise.
