Wait, was that image removed?
EDIT: Huh... Well I think I found Saru's image
Google 'slice of sci fi graph' and find the one that looks like a collection of colorful bubbles. No idea why it won't post.

That's from Crossbar, who may be bringing us a memristor device as soon as next year. And that's just 1 chip.

Exponential growth of solar power. It'll eventually turn into an asymptote sometime around 2060, well after we've become a Type I civilization.
Tellin' ya... we split from an alternate timeline in 2012 since we weren't hit by a solar storm. We're destined to transcend.

http://www.wired.co....raphene-roadmap Epaper coming next year?!

The article was from 2012 when the article above was written and it was out of date at that point. The article below describes how e-paper was the buzz in '09 and by the end of '11 it was already fading as a hot technology. http://www.engadget....-color-e-paper/

I think as some point new breakthroughs will make it more competitive. I think the trick will be a flexible display that is as durable as a book. I think a strong feature would be to be able to fold the display and it respond by resizing the display area automatically. This would allow the user to have the display the size of a paperback when the were in tight spaces but they could unfold it to the size of a newspaper when they had more space.

Confirmed Agnostic - I know that I don't know for sure and I am almost certain no one else does either.

Truth be told, I don't see much of a future for e-paper anymore. Anything e-paper and holograms can do, AR can do better and more cheaply. Maybe when graphene comes of age, we'll see competition.

That is an interesting thought but I do not think the 2 technologies are competing for the same market. Augmented Reality is more a software solution while e-paper is hardware. The picture was in the link you provided appears to show a touch screen that is transparent and portable. Such a screen would be a big enabler of AR and could be more effective than other display method. However it appears that it is unlikely anyone is close to developing such a display.

Very interesting graphs

Counting down the days until 2050: 12,499 Humanity = 0.72 on the Kardashev scale
Counting down the days until 2100: 30,761
Counting down the days until 3000: 359,479
