I mean sure, The Internet, computers, smartphones, life like video games, electric cars, flat screen monitors, are all cool and high tech. But I was wondering what do you hope to see in your life time in terms of inventions?

I would like to see the human hive mind Kurzweil suggests we'll have by 2035. The ability to expand the cognitive capacity of every member of the human race through telepathic (wireless) connections is the most mind blowing invention I can think of, it is borderline apocalyptic in scope. If we injected the devices into whales and other intelligent mammals we would be able to expand their cognition as we expanded our own and have conversations with them.

I admit that I am hoping bioscience and medicine can make me physically young by the time I get really old. I'm 30, so i've got about 40 or 50 years for big biotech revolutions to happen. I also happen to be transgender and I REALLY wish I could change my physical appearance to be ideally female. Call me vain but I want to be attractive LOL! I hope bioprinting, tissue engineering, gene therapy, biological-based nanomachines, and other technologies can help me out. I want to change my face, my physique, everything. I really, really want this to happen in my lifetime, but we'll see.

You know what Ol' MissKaioshin says at a time like this? At times like this, MissKaioshin just says..."Whatevs"

Watching my grandmother suffer at age 86, if I have to go through the same thing I hope that we have fully immersive VR a la Caprica where I can spend all day believing I'm young and fighting as MasterChief in a Halo VR game or exploring the Death Star while my body lies there in the nursing home.

The only thing we ever want is more

A computer with the ability to read your thought would be very cool, including wearables : you're lost somewhere you just think of were you would like to go example: a gas bar or a restaurant and your phone/google glass could point you the direction of the closest place. Just by thinking it.

VR: A gaming console with a vr headset instead of a controller. Playing a game like battlefield would be very interesting.

I'd like to see  a working nuclear fusion reactor, the energy paradigm resulting would be nice and if we could bolt this into a space ship so i could be alive for the first man on titan or europa.

antiaging tech is definitely getting me curious and i am looking forward to it.

If the james webb space telescope could detect alien life somewhere in the solar system or another one out there i would be very pleased.

I'm hoping to be alive around 2070-75 so that gives me a chance of seeing such a future. Assuming there's no natural disaster or a war screwing up our progress. I was about to say interstellar travel too but i think its just not going to happen in any of our lifetime, we would need an incredibly huge discovery such as a negative mass source or the ability to produce it and if i'm looking at the trends today, we're no where near such a discovery, the political and economical will is juts not there, i even consider my nuclear fusion ship idea to be optimist at this point, even for 2075.

I'm just 19, so I've got plenty of time. Let's say that by old we mean 60 years old. That's 41 more years for me, 2055. By 2055 nanomedicine and personal genetic based medicine will probably be mainstream, electric driverless cars will outnumber modern cars, computers will be mind controlled and hopefully human-like or superhuman artificial intelligence will exist. The internet of things will also be very important, and everything will be connected to the internet, which will be ubiquitous. Robotics may have surpassed human level by then. Fossil fuels and non renewable energy will hopefully be surpassed or, better yet, replaced by renewable energy. There will probably be some sort of fusion power plants on a smaller, experimental scale, but personally I don't think they'll be common yet. Asteroid mining will probably be common though. FIVR might be there, too.

Stop with the "more elements discovered" nonsense!

No.

P.S. @post above me i am just 13 years old. I will be 60 by 2060-61 haha.

Counting down the days until 2050: 12,499 Humanity = 0.72 on the Kardashev scale
Counting down the days until 2100: 30,761
Counting down the days until 3000: 359,479

Great list Kossimar. i've just turned 24, so by (touch wood) 2080 I hope that/we have:

Voyager 1 has been found by extraterrestrials.

Fully tested cryo-sleep available for the public.

Flights to the new ISS for $100k or less, the Moon for $200k or less. Mars $500k or less.

Fully immersive VR - with endless possibilities.

Space hotels.

Cost of long haul flight reduced drastically.

Religion on dramatic decrease.

Population control.

^^^ Indeed. In just 1,000,000 years Voyager will be only 57 light years away. Those include about 2000+ stars.

Ok, I'm completely new here and I've been following the website for a while now, so I'm going to kick off joining the community with a list of the things I want for the future.

  1. For fossil fuels and the damage they do to become completely obsolete in favor of renewable or zero harmful emmision power.
  2. A smart, decentralised powergrid in every country utilising wind, solar, tidal etc etc. Especially the solar roads project that could achieve this.
  3. For most countries to adopt a resource based economy which will completely remove money from any kind of economic system.
  4. Carbon nanotube factories that get the materials to produce them from carbon dioxide extracted from the atmosphere.
  5. An entirely new method of computing that solves the problem of heat. Perhaps reversible computing?
  6. The success of the Mars-One mission of establishing people to live on mars permanently.
  7. Improvement of communications between earth and mars. Perhaps using quantum physics. Its already been used to successfully transfer information across a room, now its just the problem of miniaturisation and increasing the amount we can broadcast.
  8. Extension of the human lifespan by suppressing the genes that are relevant to aging and the replacing of old organs with new ones.
  9. Mining of asteroids in the solar system
  10. Complete cure for all known and unknown diseases
  11. The enhancement of the genetics of already living people for greater intelligence, and athleticism
  12. The enhancement of all brain functions using nanotechnology
  13. The complete transfer from standalone computers to portable and wearable augmented reality interfaces which also possess the capability of fully immersive virtual reality kept powered through the wireless transfer of energy. Maybe even transfered via quantum physics?
  14. The elimination of world hunger
  15. For everyone to be considered as equal as the other regardless of age or previous social standing
  16. The removal of undesirable genetics from our gene pool so that all people, while still being as unique and different as the other, will never have to experience disabilities or any kind of disorder
  17. For the melting of the polar Ice caps to cease and reverse
  18. The extension of the human lifespan tenfold what it is now
  19. the ability to create an entirely new body with custom genes and upload your consiousness into that body thus allowing anyone to have any physical and facial features they please. A non machine way of acheiving immortality
  20. The automation of all forms of production so that humanity can instead focus all of its resources on research and the creation of amazing projects on vast scales
  21. the return of extinct animals to the ecosystem
  22. Vertical farming becoming the only method of farming

I will instigate the singularity!

@Spacekitty - Welcome to the forums :) good list, I don't know why vertical farming hasn't exploded yet, the potential for a new farming company is huge.

@Jakob - What's the name of the rover we sent to Mars?

Mostly agree with spacekitty, but #16 sounds a bit like eugenics to me.

what I meant to say there is that we remove things like dislexia, greater potential for diabetes or cancer, autism and the like for people who wish it. Perhaps the elimination of dementia and alzeimers in later years. I didn't mean everyone would have the same genetics, just the removal of genetics that cause disorders and disabilities.

Depends on how it's done. If we're talking about repairing genes, yes, that's ok. If we're talking about killing off people with a high risk for diseases then, no.

For most countries to adopt a resource based economy which will completely remove money from any kind of economic system.

The worst thing about the forum is this. The blatant resource based economy lie. FYI guys, Zeitgeist is conspiracy ridden garbage.

Stop it with the resource based economy crap. It's just that. Crap. It'll never happen. Just you wait and see.

Why a resource based economy is total BS:

http://rationalwiki....e_Venus_Project
http://m.youtube.com...h?v=-cBdbw3hsUE

The enhancement of all brain functions using nanotechnology

Ugh. Nanotechnology-wank. Why does everyone think that the solution to everything is nanotechnology? IT WILL NOT BE USED IN MANUFACTURING! IT WILL NOT GIVE US ULTRA-SUPERPOWERS!

The complete transfer from standalone computers to portable and wearable augmented reality interfaces which also possess the capability of fully immersive virtual reality kept powered through the wireless transfer of energy. Maybe even transfered via quantum physics?

Hey look, someone who doesn't understand quantum physics.

Improvement of communications between earth and mars. Perhaps using quantum physics. Its already been used to successfully transfer information across a room, now its just the problem of miniaturisation and increasing the amount we can broadcast.

FYI, the word "quantum" is just like the word "nanotech", or the words "genetic engineering". Words that have come to mean a cure-all technology. Step into reality, people.

I'm not singling you out on these topics. Literally everyone falls for these traps, even the creator of the website himself.
