8,500 gallons of gasoline spilled at Philadelphia I-95 fire

Interstate 95 bridge collapses in Philadelphia after tanker fire
The U.S. Coast Guard is monitoring waterways after 8,500 gallons of gasoline spilled. Lanes are blocked in both directions and it’s unknown how long the closures will last.

Philadelphia Emergency Management officials said a tanker caught fire. The U.S. Coast Guard said 8,500 gallons of spilled gasoline is leaking into drainage near the highway, which runs along the coast of the Delaware River.

“It hasn’t made its way to the water that much,” said Ensign Josh Ledoux, a spokesperson for the Delaware Bay sector of the Coast Guard. Crews are monitoring the situation and awaiting the arrival of an absorbent boom — a floating barrier that helps contain oil spills — from New Jersey.

Ledoux said the boom is stuck in traffic.

HIGHLAND, Ill. (AP) — A Greyhound passenger bus crashed into three tractor-trailers parked along a highway exit to a rest area early Wednesday in southern Illinois, killing three people and injuring 14 others, some seriously, state police said.

The St. Louis-bound bus was traveling westbound along Interstate 70 in Madison County around 1:55 a.m. when it crashed into the three semis, Illinois State Police said, citing an initial investigation.

Four people were taken to the hospital by helicopter and at least 10 others were taken by ambulance, state police said in a news release. Police did not immediately release details about those who were injured and killed.

No one in the three trucks was injured in the crash near the city of Highland about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of St. Louis, police said.

But that wouldn't include auto and airplane crashes. However, "Disasters" would cover everything in a single word.

More than 70 are dead after an unregulated gold mine collapsed in Mali, an official says

Source: AP

By BABA AHMED
Updated 3:00 PM CST, January 24, 2024

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — An unregulated gold mine collapsed late last week in Mali, killing more than 70 people, an official said Wednesday, and a search continued amid fears that the toll could rise.

Karim Berthé, a senior official at the government’s National Geology and Mining Directorate, confirmed the details to The Associated Press and called it an accident.

There were around 100 people in the mine at the time of the collapse, according to Abdoulaye Pona, president of the Mali Chamber of Mines, who was at the scene.

The cause of the collapse, which happened in Kangaba district in the southwestern Koulikoro region on Friday, was under investigation. It was first reported on Tuesday in a Ministry of Mines statement that estimated “several” miners dead.
