Re: My random thoughts

Robot butlers will reduce the incidence of house fires in these ways: 1) Routinely test smoke alarms and replace as necessary. 2) Routinely patrol homes for fire hazards and fix them. 3) Immediately notify the authorities if a fire starts. 4) Use water fixtures and extinguishers in a home to put out...

You've got a brain chip and robot limbs now, so in an eight hour day, you do twice as much work as a regular human. Uh-o...

You can't possibly exponentially increase the size of ocean-going ships in a practical way after a certain point, especially exponentially. I'm not sure what that exact point is, but I guess that practical ships will never be more than twice the overall size of the largest, heaviest ships today (an...

I'm watching Rael: The Alien Prophet on Netflix. If AGIs will do everything at least as well as humans someday, does that mean they'll also be charismatic cult leaders? At least in the first episode, Rael seemed like a good guy who brought his followers together in harmony and happiness. What if AGI...

Here's an analysis of the Kurzweil interview and its key points. Much faster to read than listening to the entire two-hour podcast.

Re: AI & Robotics News and Discussions

This excellent essay on Astral Codex Ten explains why the success of GPT-5 is so important to the pace of AI development. Let me explain: There have been four GPT AI's so far: GPT-1, 2, 3, and 4. On average, each took 18 months to invent after the last. Each one cost roughly 30x as much money to cr...

Re: Will technology ever revert to incremental progress?

I think it will slow down at some point. We'll hit constraints due to limited resources, waste heat, and possibly limits on what is scientifically and technologically possible.
