Re: My random thoughts

Our concept of "handmade" products made through "traditional" or "artisanal" methods will be undermined once there are machines with hands and arms that are as dexterous as humans'. https://youtu.be/apLl5H1uslM There will come a day when a robot in an industrial park no...

Genetically engineered cows could slow global warming

Cow farts and burps are responsible for 40% of global methane emissions attributable to human activity. Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas, and traps more heat inside the Earth's atmosphere than CO2. Agricultural scientists in Britain have found genes that make cows less prone to farting and bu...

Re: Prediction China will lose the "cold war"

Same could be said about you. After all. you seriously believe a country with far higher industrial and manufacturing capacity would lose to a country with a fraction of the same capacity. I'm sorry you can't see beyond western imperalistic news networks that lie about Iraq having WMDs or most coun...

Re: Particle-based Weaponry

I don't think particle weapons will come into use, but laser weapons will. They will get small enough to fit on pickup trucks.

This is a great article on the practicalities of plasma and laser weapons: https://www.militantfuturist.com/review-the-terminator/

Re: Language "entropy" model predicts Turing Test will be passed before 2025

How good do you think the source is, this coincides with Yuli Ban's proto AGI before 2025 prediction. I don't know. I've never heard of the guy before and just thought I'd pass it along without comment in the hopes you folks would appreciate it. I stand by my prediction that the Turing Test will be...

Re: My random thoughts

Tori Spelling was recently spotted taking a heated phone call outside of an attorney's office. The 48-year-old actress – who wore a baggy black blazer, matching black pants, jewelry and large black sunglasses for the Monday outing in Los Angeles – was also seen holding a notebook that listed a 3 p....

Re: Possible breakthrough in organ xenotransplantation

Part of the fee for getting an organ transplanted from a pig should be set aside for saving the life of another animal that would have otherwise died. A good place to start might be buying "downed pigs" from farmers for medical treatment and rehabilitation. https://aldf.org/case/suing-to-p...

12 predictions for the future of music

1. Record labels will gradually lose both the ability and desire to develop new artists—there simply won’t be enough profit in young talent to justify the large required investments. But the labels won’t disappear. Instead they will focus increasingly on their old catalog and archival materials. 2. ...

Re: My random thoughts

I've long believed that modular home construction is an underappreciated technology. Mass-producing house "modules" in prefabrication factories, then trucking them to building sites and having workers connect them together would lower the cost of housing and reduce construction waste. I'd ...
