Re: 2023-2024 Presidential, senate, house, state and city election thread
Trump's legal troubles are getting very intense now. I have no idea what to expect as far as the RICO charge in Georgia but surely some of the other slam dunk cases brought against him will result in convictions. Curious whether any states will actually manage to completely remove him from the ballo...

Re: Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality News & Discussions
I think the Apple headset looks really nice and during the promo video I definitely thought "I want it!" Only rich people will be able to afford this first version of it, but it makes me excited for the future of AR/VR.

My reaction to -Ending wage slavery -Curing cancer -Genetic enhancement that cures literally every disease and problem with the human body -Ending death -And then the science and advancements in exciting news. Re: Fashion in the 2030s, 2040s
Looking at how 80s and 90s fashion elements have made a resurgence and been popular for several years now, its possible that we're not far off from 2000s fashion making a comeback, starting with frosted tips and progressing into goth shit, emo and scene. I'd kinda be looking forward to that, honestly.

Re: Trump wants to build ten cities that feature flying cars
It's so ridiculous. The president's job is not to develop a master-planned economy. The fact that the frontrunner for the Republican nomination is suggesting that it is, is beyond parody at this point.

Re: Morgan Stanley thinks GPT-5 is already being trained in secret
With the surprise release of GPT-4 this week I have to take back what I said. It was also revealed that GPT-4 has existed for quite a while and various industry insiders were playing with it behind the scenes for the past several months. Additionally I've been seeing people say that bing Chat is pow...

Re: Your 2023 predictions
This seems like fun. I don't have a whole lot of predictions but I do have at least a few. Google finally starts to sell public access to an image generation service based on Imagen. It will be as censored as DALL-E, if not moreso, but most likely it will be the best general image generator at the t...

Re: Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality News & Discussions
I think I'm just about ready to buy my first VR headset. There are about 3 or so games that I would like to play in VR so it is finally time. However from the perspective of a non-enthusiast I will say that I feel very overwhelmed by the number of options and its not really clear to me what their st...

Re: Morgan Stanley thinks GPT-5 is already being trained in secret
Hmm.. well I'm sure there is work on a post-GPT-4 architecture that has improvements that can't be integrated into GPT-4 this late into its development. But I don't know what to make of the statement "we think GPT-5 is being run on $200m worth of GPUs." What is their source to even make th...

Re: Would you vote for Bill Gates for President?
Nope. Gates is 67 years old. After suffering through Trump's presidency and then recently watching Biden in a press conference recently I decided that I will no longer vote for obnoxiously old people to be president any more. I just don't seriously believe people this old are up to the task of the w...

It is kind of funny to watch hardware improving really fast these days even with the slowdown in node shrinks. Only single-core performance has leveled off, multi-core is still on an insane trajectory. Even then the single core is still exponential, just not as much. Once chip-stacking comes into it...

I don't want to risk getting banned from OpenAI since I don't know how long they'll be the leader in the space and I don't want to lose access to their stuff. The fact that all the leading AIs are censored really sucks though. At least we have NovelAI

I am also confused, perhaps that was a typo in the article? I would expect them to be training GPT-4.

I do think that the probability of alien visitation is higher than most people give it credit for. It's a pet peeve of mine when people say that its "extremely unlikely" that aliens would visit Earth based on our understanding of technological lifeforms of which we have a sample size of on...

Re: How have the tech developments of 2022 impacted your life?
I spent a lot of time playing with image generators in the last few months of 2022. I used ChatGPT to help me out with coding a few times. Really looking forward to getting my hands on the next generation of image generators when they become available. Also hoping we'll see some drops in price this ...

I've always resented the idea that basic income will just make people lazy. To be frank, my "job" prevents me from doing my real life's work by sapping all of my energy and motivation.

Re: The 9.9 Percent Is the New American Aristocracy
I tried to read the article linked by OP, but that is some of the worst writing I have ever encountered. Do they ever get to the point? Before I gave up all I could surmise is that it's the bottom 90%s fault for having their money stolen by the top 0.1% because they don't have the right attitude in ...

In turn, Biden can delegate authority in such manners to the Attorney General, who in federal cases ar...
