As long as sentient beings exist somewhere in the universe,they'll likely speculate about the future. Of course, the idea that the future will include massive scientific and technological advancements is a modern one and may not be a widely held view forever.

I think politics should be kept out of entertainment.
Unless it happens to be politics I agree with, of course. Which is none, as all politicians are bad people and the only problems that politics/politicians solve are the ones they create to justify their own existence.

Yes of course, this is how they'll eventually take over, by slowly persuading us to hand over the keys to our industries and social/political institutions one by one. Not with some skynet bs.

Furthermore, I can't see the owners of a cosmic simulation becoming emotionally attached to entities in the simulation, any more than you or I would be emotionally attached to NPCs in a video game.

My official stance is that the technological singularity won't happen because new developments in science, technology and other domains will never get so rapid that unaugmented humans will not be able to keep track of them. This will even be the case after artificial general intelligence is created...
