my predictions for 2050
My prediction is that world population in 2030 will be 8.5 billion and world GDP PPP will be approximately 2 times higher than in 2010 (when Earth's human population was 7 billion). In 2050, world population will be 10 billion and world GDP PPP will be 2x higher than in 2030 and 4x higher than in 20...

Re: Covid-19 and anti-Covid vaccines
Do you have anything positive to say about anything? I've written plenty positive things on the web, including this forum! I have more negative things to write: I trusted my medical doctor psychiatrist (because I was gullible), he said a drug he prescribes will cure my depression .... it did not (a...

a look back to 2010 in computer hardware
Intel 4 core 8 thread 2.8 GHz i7-930 in March 2010 was only 6.1% faster than the i7-920 from September 2008. Price was 5 USD higher : $289 instead of $284. The 45nm Bloomfield i7-920 was on the other hand 63.3% faster than the 65nm Kentsfield Q6600 from 2007 ($266 in 2007). +63.3% was much more noti...

Covid-19 and anti-Covid vaccines
January, February and March of 2020 were probably relatively good for me, as I found a new source of optimism, I left some toxic groups and "friends", I started playing a video game I had been planning to play for a while (although I soon gave up) and I was listening to Peter Diamandis and...

Re: Will technology ever revert to incremental progress?
What if the harbors are upgraded to make them deeper and wider? Is there a need for 1.5 km long and 350 m high ships on Earth though? Why would we need them? What for? Vanity? Perhaps they could be useful on different planets somehow much larger than Earth that have much vaster oceans. Such planets...

politics and economy
People are (unfortunately) quite often crazy and stupid. I tried to reason multiple times with my old, Trump-loving conspiracy theorist. He's so sure his sources are correct, that I cannot possibly convince him of anything he doesn't already believe in at this point. I severed all connections with p...

performance scaling across cores and threads
Real-world performance typically doesn't scale linearly with cores and threads. From what I've seen, with constant frequency, same cache size per thread and same architecture like Zen 4, performance increases in various advanced, professional, useful workloads stack up approximately like this: ▪️ 4 ...

Re: Desktop PC, Laptop and tablet news and discussions
My current laptop has a much more durable metal chassis and it lasts significantly longer on a single charge than the previous one. It also features a camera that offers a better quality image despite being very small. OLED screens as well as 120 Hz are now becoming common.

Re: Not Doom, Not Hopewash, the Third-path Future.
From what I see, in the last 14 years people have been mostly (you could certainly find some exceptions) much more widely applying 2010 technology or ideas, instead of introducing some totally new, completely groundbreaking technology or ideas into useful practice on a wider scale (perhaps with the ...
