Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

Interesting side note, usually, there are helicopters heard every day in Rochester, I think from people being medically evacuated to the hospital (but I'm unsure on this), but today, because of the high winds, there were no helicopters.

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

There was rotation detected in southeast Rochester, near Stewartville, but I'm in the northern part. I think sirens went off but they were distant from where I am. At this point, I am unsure that anything hit the ground, though (This was according to my Accuweather app, so take that with a grain of ...

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

The wind is definitely powerful tonight, and the rain is falling in short spurts, dumping a bunch at once. Then it dies down again. No tornadoes still.

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

I'm now seeing lightning a short bit away, and the lights are flickering (there are a lot of branches close to power lines in this city), so I expect the lights may go out at some point. No tornadoes yet. I haven't seen any news from anyone else on here, so I don't know if that aspect of the storm s...

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

@xyls Oh I know. I was just letting people know I'd try to say what I'm seeing when the time comes. Should have clarified that.

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

I'll update everyone on what I'm seeing in my area if anyone is interested (while taking precautions of course).

Re: Extreme weather news and discussion

I actually moved to Rochester, MN this past summer. The Mayo Clinic is in this city (at least, the central hub of it). My significant other is getting treatment for neurological issues here because where we lived in Indiana, they not only couldn't help us, some of the doctors treated us like s*** (b...

Re: Sino-American Cold War Watch Thread

I knew China was way ahead when I was told five or so years ago that all of Shanghai's movie theaters were 3D, not 2D. It's surprising to me also that the US was in such deep denial. It probably has something to do with ego, but also, the assumption that all China does is copy other people's ideas. ...

Re: Personal chat thread

I have now written more than 20,000 words for my novel. That may be nothing compared to a text generator, but it is still quite an accomplishment. I've never written so many words for one story in my life. Lol! On to the next 20,000 (although my book may be shorter than I anticipated).

Re: Over 700 Stars Mysteriously Vanished In The Last 70 Years, But Why?

Thanks for explaining andmar 74! So, in this case, a collision with a galaxy would only have stars disappearing at a very slow rate and not in big chunks like in the case explained here. I knew we weren't expecting one for a while, but I was curious if those events cause this too. Now I know!
