Working on my next prediction for the timeline, it looks like fossil fuels could be around until as late as 2090, even with strong growth in renewables.

    That was a ramble. This is better. Emissions may not be a problem at some point but extraction methods still are. For profit companies are not incentivized to care and that's how we get coal companies blowing the tops off mountains in Appalachia.

    If it’s because each fuel type has pros and cons that makes sense to me.

    In a case like Sri Lanka with few fossil fuels, it made sense to use solar early on despite its relatively high cost in most other countries. I can imagine a nation like Russia using mineral oil for a long time to come owing to their own circumstance.
