If you believed pop-science articles and blogs, you'd believe that the Singularity was next year, that Sophia is sentient and possibly sapient, that DeepMind's AI is on par with a human child, that "neural networks" are literally digital neurons in a computer, and that all showcases of AI and robotics are successful on their first attempts rather than picking the best from possibly hundreds of attempts.
