I'm really getting into retro computing. Computers back then were just so much more fundamental and hands on, and also they look fucking cool.

What if the messages we're leaving behind online become a virtual archeological site where future intelligences go to study and seek glimpses into our history and culture. In that case I should write a message: When my statue is being built, I prefer silver over gold lining.

I was lazily holding my keyboard in my hands to scroll through a pdf file, and I made the sudden realization that I can use a computer keyboard as a musical instrument. It never occured to me before watching people mimic guitars with a computer keyboard. I can finally learn a new instrument, if I set it up right.

And some Leftists act as China-apologists on this issue. Max Blumenthal's [a noted Putin and Assad apologist] outfit The Grayzone, for example, wrote:

Yea, there are quite a few despotic sympathisers on the left. It's when they take anti-americanism so far that they side freely with anti-american despots. Of course, it's different from correcting people with a skewed media perception on countries like Venezuela, NK, and China, but don't cross the line where you think their governments are the goodies and western governments the baddies.

The joys of tribalism. the far left have rejected unthinking loyalty to their own state, but now their own state has become "them" and those opposed to "them" are "us" and suddenly genocide is ok now, or at least a western lie.

It's like a minefield. You don't know where to step, and what will happen when you do. That risk and uncertainty transforms a clear view of the future into one shrouded in mist and potential ruin.

My question is, if one is afraid of the misuse of DNA, why are they not as afraid of the misuse of speakers on their phone that they carry around with them, or DNA alteration in general, or wearable technology or embedded technology, etc etc etc? I feel like the fear should be the same, because the same levels of misuse can occur. Especially, if data is secretly recorded. I'd say technology itself is the minefield, especially considering how easy it is to misuse it and how difficult it is...

... difficult it is to keep it ethical, or consider every ethical stance on it before it becomes widespread. I feel like just like our biology can be discriminated against, what we say in private can also incriminate us, especially when framed out of context, among other things.

I think most western Europeans at least understand political concepts like socialism, fascism and capitalism even though most of them lean towards liberal capitalism like Americans do. Canadians are closer to western Europeans than they are Americans education wise I think.
