Lab-grown meat still has some issues in regards to veganism due to using some animal product in the growth stock and obviously the harvesting of starter cells. Don't get me wrong, any lab-grown meat is leagues better than mass slaughter. But let's say we wanted to be completely ethical without tech we won't have for a long time.

What if we used consenting well payed humans as the starter stock? Would you eat the meat? Is it technically cannibalism even though it's ethical?

Nice question! I'd eat the meat, but ideally I would use my own cells to start it out then I'm eating myself! This way it is even more ethically sound than eating plants!

My primitivist comrades would chastise me for saying this. But can we please genocide invasive species that don't integrate with their new environments at all. I just spent 4 hours sealing my homes windows and fighting off dozens of stinkbugs that got in. The coldsnap a few nights back must of set them off.

I know I've not always articulated why I despise copyright well before. Instead of explaining theory badly. Consider that the reason no affordable easy access generic insulin currently exists is because megacorps enforce monopoly through copyright. Copyright kills in practice as a law. This is one of many examples.

patents/paywalls. My main gripes are when copyright makes corporations not artists/creators rich, blocks scientific liberty, enforces monopoly and kills people as with the example above.

It kills everything! Even limiting copyright to 10 years for digital and 75 for solid would do wonders for advancement of ideas. Public movie, gaming and educational sites would pop up overnight that would dwarf netflix, etc.

Nevermind the ECB's statement that "recession risk to the eurozone remains low." The fact that they've taken these measures means that the European economy is in shoddy shape.

The Euro is more likely to strengthen against the US dollar from this point on. Any further easing or rate cuts by ECB won't be effective. The relay has been passed on to the Euro governments to do something about fiscal policy. What they will do with it will determine how the Euro will perform next.

Supersized meals are an example of capitalist overproduction and supply/demand mismatch. No one actually needs them and no one wanted them before companies advertised them. I wonder if anyone has written about capitalist overproduction like they have with the soviets?

Eacao is right in that if a specific product is unneeded it dies in a capitalist society, but historic planned economies, tend not to be self correcting in the same way so things can persist longer.

The more I read about climate crisis the more I think we need to change the narrative. There's this idea that economies can't handle the 7-10% yearly contractions we need to halt emissions in time. My issue is these scientists seem to assume a status qou economic model, which means growth economics. I suspect that if we gave this our all, banned consumerism and started rationing resources today we could fix this. In that sense I think the crisis is a social problem for now, not an eng...

With advanced bioengineering I'd like to see humans who photosynthesize. Trees only collect a few 100 calories a day from the sun, so we'd have to improve on nature's design to power a human. But the idea of spending a good part of the day dreaming in the sun while my body powers up is very appealing. Perhaps we could merge photosynthesis with sleep?

One of many possible direction for people to pursue Alislaws. Racism as we know it today should slowly dissolve as we diverge more. It's harder to have a concept of artificial superiority when you're no longer the most intelligent being around and or there are massively neurodivergent people in society.

Amen, but I'm pessimistic in how society would change consumerist behavior. It's all going to hit a head someday, and our generation will probably be the world leaders when it does. Or maybe our artificial overlords.

The more I think about it the more I realize how much nearly every country is just a U.S puppet state due to how much the U.S controls the flow of capital. The territory called the U.S is just the capital province with most other parts of the world being exploited colony or favored province.

That is why I said it was Postmodernism 2.0. I should have said what I meant by that. What I meant was that it is an improved version of the philosophy (restricted to epistemology and maybe some metaphysics), that philosophers of science take seriously; not that it's the next generation of attacks from the Postmodernists.

Does anyone have any updates on the samurai wasp population in the US? As of last year I know they were spotted in 10 states and reproduce at ~24x the speed of the brown marmorated stinkbug. The stinkbug swarms have been bad for over a decade and these little wasps are my heroes because they kill ~80% of the stinkbug eggs they infect.
