I have bulging veins in a few places on my body (arms, legs), due to physical exertion, and I had wondered if it had something to do with the temporary rise in blood pressure when lifting weights, and whether it was unhealthy in the long-run (say, when I'm about 20 years older). It turns out that it's not due to blood pressure at all, which was a surprise: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-veins-pop-out-when/

This totally changes how I think about veins! Based on this, it seems that a good thing to do is to get up and walk around periodically -- don't sit too long! -- as this will help the blood flow in your veins, where the pressure is low. I generally can't force myself to sit for too long at a time, which is a good thing, I guess.
