And what’s this nonsense about reproductive rights? That’s absurd and you know it.

The reproductive rights comment was demonstrating a slippery slope, not meant to be literal I think.

People are innocent until proven guilty and surveilling innocent people is a civil rights violation. In this case clearly criminalizing disability and poverty.

Government surveillance of this mass sort in general is draconian, wrong and something that conservatives like yourself would be outraged over in the pre 9/11 era.

Sure, they have an inverted pyramid age distribution problem, but that doesn't explain everything. The U.S. is ahead in many different ways, and weaker in others. For example, in science and technology, Japan can't really compete.

Then there is all the blather about how taxes and regulations are slowing things down. But the same arguments against tech unemployment (libertarians disbelieve in tech unemployment) should apply here: like water flowing around a rock in a river, the economy will work around the "problem", shifting value elsewhere, creating other growth opportunities. Perhaps sci-tech progress is happening as fast as possible, given acceptable levels of risk, contra Thiel

Thankyou for reposting this Kjaggard. It resonates a lot with me and if it wasn't for this website leading me to transhumanism, which lead me to anarcho-transhumanist authors, I might be alt-right. Same with philosophy tube, Olly also had a big good influence on me.

782K to treat 42 people for labour that is probably worth less than 10K total. Despicable. Healthcare and prison officials should be stripped of all power and position.

I went with the refurbished, because in the end they had a 90 day warranty and bought an extra 2 year warranty on top for about $40. I couldn't find a warranty on any of the others, and generally those would be just a year anyway. That and aspire are usually considered study in the long term. It's a ram upgrade above what I've been using. it just lacks the optical drive. I'll manage.

still trying to beat the cold, but I'm functioning. Spent a couple nights in a bit of a slum with a native man trying to make something of his life and keeps getting the rug pulled out from under him, and the next few nights I'm a travelers waypoint on Oahus north shore. It's both small and vast here.

seven days from right now, I will have landed on Oahu, and will be making my way to the west side of the island where I will stay for a couple days. Then back to Honalulu for a few more days. I can't believe I'm doing this. This seems so crazy.

A friend found an ad on facebook that for once was interesting (a web comic) but she mis-clicked and couldn't find it again and posted her frustration. So I set out on a comic search based on her description. I didn't find hers (she later found it herself) but I asked her about a few I found, and despite not being right I wound up falling down the rabbit whole of one of the best and most innovative comics I've seen ever.

/\ Impossible. Humans are rational, not entirely logical or emotional. There are cases of neurodiversity where people are more one than the other. People with very low mirror neurons sometimes don't experience empathy for example. Even the great stoics of ancient time felt their emotions, they just did their best not to let them effect decision making. I'd argue that anyone who attempts to completely disregard emotions, not recognize and process them, will find their reasoning ju...

just as irrational as a person who is openly consumed by their emotions.

Emotions are part of us, it's better to accept that and deal with them instead of denying our nature. The transhumanist in me agrees that if a person desires to make themselves emotionless that is their right. Our biology is not sacred, but while we are bound to it we are forced to work within those bounds. More importantly without emotions all art would be meaningless. The existence of an entirely logica...

logical being would be very drab and lifeless. Much of life's experience demands more than logic.

This discussion begs the question, why do we even care for logic? What does it do for us. Why do we desire to practice logical reasoning at all? If in answering that question one finds emotion is the root of that desire, it's necessity will appear before them.
