    It's astounding how much of Earth *isn't* inhabited (or is sparsely populated). We have this idea that, in our modern age, we've spread to all corners of the globe and you can find people living anywhere. But humans are tiny.

    Take Bangladesh. The most densely populated country with more than 1 million people in it (otherwise you'd have to include microstates), and its population is above 160 million IIRC packed in a country as small as New York state— and yet there are *still* sparsely populated rural areas.
