Yikes. Yield estimates on the Beirut nitrate explosion are as high as 1.3 kilotons. For comparison, Tianjin was about 21 tons. That's the difference between a tactical nuke vs a MOAB.

    According to one estimate, the explosion had a TNT equivalent of 3kt. For comparison, Hiroshima had a yield of 15kt.

    Tianjin was 336 tons TNT equivalent for the actual explosion, 21 tons for the seismic shockwave produced.
