TIL to download Grand Theft Auto V at 9600 baud, a common modem speed in the early 1990s, it would take almost 2 years.

9600 baud = 9.6 Kbps for those too young. I think that's the same amount of data transfer that exists for telephones.

9.6 kilobits per second chipping away at a game that's 67 gigabytes in size? I'm almost surprised it isn't longer. If I had a 9600 baud connection and tried to download GTA 5 from Steam in December 2015, I'd only just have finished that download back around Thanksgiving.

God help ye if you're trying it with a 2400 baud connection. You could've started when the game was originally released in September 2013 via a pirated copy and still only be 2/3 of the way finished: 7 years 7 months 6 days 12 hours 45 minutes 40 seconds

It sometimes feels like my computer takes 2 years to respond to me.

Man, I remember still getting AOL demo discs as late as 2006. I still have an old AOL account somewhere, complete with an AOL email address. At this point, I've probably maxed out the inbox capacity because I'm fairly certain I haven't touched it in five years. And I'm being literal— 2013 is the last time I ever remember using my AOL account for something, and that was for school.

The fact your post has "2018" as a date marker in it makes me feel old.

To me the '90s actually started feeling like a long time ago back in around 2016. Society and the world has changed a lot since that era and my memories of childhood have begun to fade. When I think "30 years ago", I think of the early 1980's, which is at most only 8 years from the actual answer.

90s kids are adults now

This is kind of terrifying. Now that is 2018, there are officially no "90s kids" left. The youngest ones, born in 1999, all turned 18 before the start of 2018.

Dude, you're younger than I am and I feel very young--you have no right to feel old!

You're right. It was more of a "wow everyone I know is becoming an adult now" than "wow I feel old". Although reaching the age that many consider the beginning of adulthood does feel a bit strange in itself  ;)

Ah, that's right--I see from your profile page that you just reached that milestone. Congrats, by the way.

Thanks, I appreciate it. In the end its just a number. I don't really feel any different being "18".
