I'm not really sure Star Citizen is ever going to release tbh. I don't understand why anyone has spent 100s or even 1000s on a ships for a game that isn't even out. Well, I don't understand why anyone would pay 100$ for a ship to begin with but that's besides the point. Elite Dangerous is the winner here. They have the most impressive space sim to date, actually delivered and consistently improve the game with real expansions.

Star ctizen summary:

Chris Roberts says "hey internet I want to make a game like freelancer but with some extras, but if you give me hundreds of millions of £s what id really like to do is create a full virtual universe for people to explore"

Internet: "have hundreds of millions of £s"

CR:"thanks I'll get on with hiring hundreds of people across 3 companies and trying to build that virtual universe we talked about!"

3 years pass

Internet: "is it done yet?"

CR: "Not even close"

Internet: "I cant believe its taken so long just to make freelancer with some extras! Total Scam!"

I think the project might fail. If it does it will be a sincere effort by the hundreds of devs, which ends in failure when the money dries up. The biggest frustration I have around it is the endless "its a scam!" false controversy around it. It is not a scam, they have hired hundreds of people  and are paying those people to make the game they have promised, I have even played it in the recent free week they had.

It may fail, but it is not a scam.

Also don't put more money than you can afford into a kickstarter, since they fail a lot.

Also also, probably not a great idea to fund an item with £1000s of donations when the end product will cost £40, pretty sure you'll make a loss on that one.
