Thousands of people are expected to descend on East Sussex to mark the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

Battle Abbey, widely accepted as the site of the one of the most famous events in British history, is the focus for a weekend of events.

The battle, between William of Normandy and Anglo-Saxon King Harold II, resulted in the English king's death.

Thousands of soldiers were killed on the historic date, 14 October 1066.

“One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don't throw it away.”
