I might end up using this thread as a generic dumping ground for predictions of mine, but here are several that I think should be added to the timeline now. Most of them are related to the economy, and the value of various technology sectors.

2022: Vertical Farming is a $6.8 Billion Industry

Pretty self-explanatory.

(source)

2026: The Hyperloop is a $6.3 Billion Industry

(source)

Probably there will by hyperloops complete or under construction on three continents. Worth noting that.

2035: The Industrial Internet Is Contributing $10-15 Trillion to the Global Economy

(source)(source)

2060s: A $1 Quadrillion Global Economy

(source)(source)(source)

They were never relevant, dear.

Also, this is a thread for my additions, go make your own.

  • 2020--China has a reusable spaceplane.(source)
  • 2021--Laser weapons deployed on jet fighters. (source)
  • 2024--Launch of the Europa Lander.(many sources)
  • 2030--A Pluto orbiter/lander mission is launched.  Nothing confirmed as of yet, but there are people pushing for this. I'm guessing it'll be on the next decadal survey. Might be a good use for the Falcon Heavy. (source)
  • 2045--A mile-high skyscraper in Japan.(source) Strikes me as a serious proposal.

Are these going to be used?

Anyway, speaking of China.

2030. China's Long March 9 rocket is in use for Lunar and Martian missions.

2040. China develops its nuclear-powered spacecraft.

Why are you even on this forum? All you do is insult people and rant incoherently.

It's hard to come up with ideas. I try but apparently they're incoherent (or as it seems in your case: lack of effort on behalf of the readers). Like one of my last topics which you clearly understood but simply disliked. http://www.futuretim...0s/#entry225356

Anyways most of my "insults" are simply picking apart weak arguments and playing devil's advocate. You're a big college boy now though so i'm sure you'll be fine.

2019. Attempt to synthesize elements 119 and 120. If successful, these would be the first additions to the periodic table in a decade. (source) This prediction could also mention that it would be followed by an attempt at element 121 in the early 2020s, and that discoveries of new elements would require new technological breakthroughs.

I'll be adding the one about China's nuclear rockets. The 2020s and 2030s pages are getting saturated with entries, and the pages are taking too long to load, so I'd rather concentrate on the 2040s-50s and onwards for now. I may go back and delete some earlier predictions, actually.

Hmm. Perhaps split into multiple pages for some years?

I will keep an eye out for more from the mid-late 21st century though.

Shouldn't New Glenn be added to the page for 2020?

Here's another prediction: In 15,000 years, natural climate change will cause vegetation to spread across the Sahara Desert.

2040 - China's military technology is more advanced than Russia's in nearly every way. U.S. technology is still the most advanced overall, though. Smaller countries like Israel and Germany will be the most advanced in niche military capabilities and systems.

Does anyone have an example of Russian technology? Consumer electronics, cars?

Not every part of their economy is as well-developed as the others.

They've focused on developing their arms export industry, and it makes good products.

My prediction:  very powerful, non-invasive, wearable BCIs will be revealed -- in months to a year.  The tech already exists; what is uncertain is exactly when groups will find it prudent to share what they have created.  There are several issues in play:

* If the tech is revealed, other groups will immediately try to make their own -- perceived risk of failure will be lower.  It's therefore prudent to find a way to keep it hidden as long as possible, while making money from it.

* What if a country like China uses it on various classes of workers?

* Best to wait until there is some nice show-and-tell stuff -- e.g. a typing-by-thought app that really works, really fast.
