Looking at the bar graph, it's conceivable that, in the near future, China could have more air conditioners than the rest of the world put together. They're not far from that milestone now.
Air conditioning is, of course, a contributor to global warming.
Additionally, SOMEONE in East Asia has been pumping large amounts of chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere, in violation of international treaty. The chemicals were, among other things, used as refrigerants. They were banned because they were destroying the ozone layer.
