In any case, the in-fighting currently going on within the Republican wing (along with rumors about a "Patriot Party" branching off from it) could cost them future elections if they don't rally together by then.
^ This is precisely why the Republicans now suddenly care so much about national "unity." In truth, they are just scared of their own base, and are literally being held hostage by the very thing they've allowed to fester for decades. I hope a spilt in the GOP happens with or without Trump. While such a hypothetical "Patriots Party" would absolutely be the American National Socialist Workers Party spearheaded by folk like the Proud Boys, it would still kill off the power base the GOP has enjoyed for so long.
It's certainly a risk to be sure. But the reward is an unofficial one-party state underneath the Democratic Party, now free to go as big gov as they please. Demographic shifts would kill off the GOP completely along with the new competitor. Gerrymandering of congressional districts wouldn't save them, either.
Maybe both would just eat and destroy themselves, leaving only the Dems who would then spearhead A.I. advances due to their alliance with Big Tech to safeguard their absolute power over the electorate.
