Users of a Major Online Trump Hub Expect They’ll Be Kicked off Reddit—and They Don’t Know Where to Go

https://www.motherjo...ban_quarantine/

Introduction:

(Mother Jones) For years, Reddit had hesitated to take action against one of its most prominent toxic communities: r/The_Donald, which in addition to being the site’s fan club for supporters of President Trump, has become a noxious hotbed of hate speech and bigotry. That finally changed on June 26 when Reddit “quarantined” r/The_Donald message board, making it harder for some users to access its content. Reddit quarantines often end in bans, and The_Donald’s users are trying to figure out where to they might go if the company shuts them down.

Public agreement has been hard to come by. In Reddit threads and in their group on Telegram, an encrypted messaging app, The_Donald members have weighed potential new homes on obscure “free speech platforms” and found the options lacking.

Here's something to consider: there's a very far-right Reddit alternative called Voat (the kind of place where such goats like /v/Niggers and /v/Physical_Removal are popular), and you'd think they'd be excited to have The_Donald. Except T_D tried emigrating to Voat back in 2017 and they were all but told to get the fuck out because no one wanted them there.

The_Donald occupies a strange niche, too far right for mainstream discourse but too juvenile for the nastier parts of the far-right. And it's not like Voat is particularly popular either— last I recall, there were constant funding issues and the more toxic the place became, the fewer hosts they could find. They really have to stick with Reddit to survive.

And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future.

This is from Rear Admiral David Titley, a meteorology professor who was also the COO of NOAA for two years. Trump's administration poisons everything it touches.

I am incandescent with rage over this. One of the most trusted science agencies in the country. In the world. And Trump has poisoned it.

Back in 2017, the government extracted a highly placed covert source in Russia because they thought Trump might reveal his identity to Putin.

BOLTON FIRED

Source: AP News

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Tuesday forced out John Bolton, his hawkish national security adviser with whom he had significant disagreements on Iran, Afghanistan and a cascade of other global challenges.

The two men offered opposing accounts on Bolton’s less than friendly departure, a leave-taking example of what had been a fractious relationship almost from the start.

Trump tweeted that he told Bolton Monday night his services were no longer needed at the White House and Bolton submitted his resignation Tuesday morning. Bolton responded in a tweet of his own that he offered to resign Monday “and President Trump said, ‘Let’s talk about it tomorrow.’”

Opinion:

...and it's not hard to guess why, when you look at the key failures of American foreign policy, in which Bolton was directly involved.

The pressure on Iran has failed. Iran did not surrendered and responded to harsh measures with harsh measures: shoot down an American drone, seized a British tanker, not only didn’t leave Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, but on the contrary continued to increase its influence and presence. Like a cherry on a cake, the Trump-Bolton policy has led to the fact that United States are now facing the risk of getting Iran with nuclear weapons, that will happen because the United States themselves withdrawn from a deal prohibiting Iran from having nuclear weapons, a deal Iran agreed with!

Campaign in Venezuela, in order to overthrow Maduro, failed miserably. Bolton was one of its main architects, so the part of the failure is completely on him. He fed Trump the idea that if he support Guaido and "these guys", then everything will work out. Trump believed and then was greatly disappointed when, instead of a quick and elegant colour revolution, he was dragged in a lengthy campaign that has led to increasing of American and Russian military presence.

An attempt to make a deal with North Korea, too, failed miserably. Trump was ready to negotiate, but the summit in Hanoi, which was supposed to be a breakthrough point, was disrupted. This was largely due to the actions of Bolton who, on the eve of the summit, several times rudely threatened Kim Jong-un while CIA organized a raid on North Korean diplomatic mission in Spain...

Bolton got off very easily. Essentially, for what he did, he fully deserve a death penalty.

Trump has done plenty to warrant impeachment. But the Ukraine allegations are over the top.

But this is the holy truth: Biden's son is really guilty, Russian and Ukrainian media wrote about his dirty Ukrainian adventures back in 2014, long before this all has became a hot issue in USA. The current campaign in Democratic media is just a preemptive strike to devalue the possible use of this story by Trump:

Quote from one Russian article:

Going to politics, Zelensky probably thought he was offered the best performance in his artistic career. But it turned out that there was no time for jokes.

Trump demanding compromising evidence on Biden in order to use it in his fight for the White House. And if the Ukrainian President will not bring this evidence, no meeting will take place. Trump is already openly threatening: "What we do in Ukraine was meaningless and annoying Russia" and “Russians should be our friends.”

Democrats, in turn, trying to convince Zelensky that next presidency will be theirs. If he will deliver the required (by Trump) dirt, they will remember that. And if he will not, they're promising the full support and solution of many problems. Nuland, who recently arrived to Kiev, strictly warned the "chief of natives" from meddling in "white people affairs".

Dilemma? Of course!

Who will be the next US president? For us, Russians, this question is irrelevant. For Zelensky this is fundamental: he is forced to put all his eggs in one of two baskets. He must decide which one, and decide very quickly.

Trump will be impeached by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives in December 2019, the end of the year, like Clinton did in December 1998 in the Republican-controlled House.

But he will be acquitted by the Senate

Joe Biden demands Trump release transcript of Ukraine call

Source: Axios

Former Vice President Joe Biden called for President Trump to release a transcript of his July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, amid reports that Ukraine is at the center of a whistleblower's complaint over Trump's contacts with a foreign leader.

Giuliani can't say 100 percent Trump didn't threaten Ukraine aid

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA KLAR - 09/23/19 10:07 AM EDT

Rudy Giuliani on Monday said that he can’t say for certain that Trump didn’t threaten Ukraine aid when he spoke to that country's president about an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden's son.

Giuliani, who is acting as the president's personal attorney, during an interview Monday with Fox Business first said reports that Trump threatened to cut aid was “a false story,” but then backtracked when pressed.

“Did the president threaten to cut off aid to the Ukraine,” Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo asked Giuliani during the interview.

“No, no that was a false story,” he responded.
“One hundred percent?,” the host asked Giuliani.

“Well, I can’t tell you if it’s 100 percent,” Giuliani said.

Schumer says releasing transcript of Trump call falls short

Source: The Hill

September 24, 2019 - 02:58 PM EDT

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday said releasing the transcript of a call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky doesn't go far enough and says Congress needs to see the whistleblower complaint the administration has held back.

"We need the complaint. We need the complaint of the whistleblower as sent to the IG," Schumer said, referring to a complaint filed by an unnamed whistleblower to intelligence community Inspector General Michael Atkinson.

"It's nice to have the transcript. We don't even know right now if the complaint is about the transcript, in part or in whole," Schumer added. "And without the complaint, we don't know what the IG thought was so urgent. We do not know what the whistleblower thought was so urgent."

"So simply releasing the transcript does not come close to ending the need of the American public and the Congress to see what actually happened," Schumer said.

He also questioned whether the administration would withhold portions considered classified....................................

Nancy Pelosi Announces Formal Impeachment Inquiry of Trump.

Source: nyt

Faced with new allegations against President Trump and administration stonewalling, Democrats have ended months of caution.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday that the House would begin a formal impeachment inquiry of President Trump, opening a fresh chapter of confrontation in response to startling allegations that the president sought to enlist a foreign power for his own political gain.

“The president must be held acccountable,” she said after emerging from a meeting of House Democrats in the basement of the Capitol. “No one is above the law.”

The announcement was a stunning development that unfolded after months of caution by House Democrats, who have been divided over using the ultimate remedy to address what they have called flagrant misconduct by the president.

In this case, with a growing number of Democrats who had resisted the move now demanding it, Ms. Pelosi has become convinced that Mr. Trump’s reported actions, and his administration’s refusal to share details about the matter with Congress, have left the House no alternative outside of impeachment. The inquiry has the potential to reshape Mr. Trump’s presidency and to cleave an already divided nation only a year before he plans to stand for re-election.

Trump and his allies have pushed for Ukraine to conduct a formal investigation of Biden’s son and, whether explicitly or by corollary and implication, the former vice president himself. This appears to be a blatant abuse of his authority, using the power of the presidency to induce a foreign country into investigating a political opponent. Worse still, this effort appears to not only have the implicit power of the presidency behind it, but the official force of the White House, because at the same time, Trump has been withholding authorized military aid to Ukraine.

This scandal has been covered far less the Russia investigation, and only recently has it become a leading story, so it’s natural that the public may be a bit caught off guard and confused at the series of events. To get caught up, here’s a timeline of key events in the scandal — along with links for further information: (see link provided below)
