Isaac Arthur is an awesome science populizer and futurist. On August 22nd, his channel is premiering it’s 200th episode titled “Things Which Shall Never Exist”. He will be talking about things that will never be possible to be created. Arthur is pretty optimistic about technology. He predicts we might even be able to move a solar system!

I can’t wait for this episode and I’m speculating like crazy. What things are most likely never going to exist that he might talk about. I’m thinking FTL travel will come up at some point. What else?

I have only seen maybe 2 or 3 Isaac Arthur videos. He is pretty good at what he does, I have to admit -- I just don't have that much interest in Space.

People have asked him about his funny speaking style, and he said once that he has a speech impediment, that affects his pronunciation of "r" sounds. I actually think it adds to his presentations -- it sounds like an Alabama accent or something, which is a little unusual to hear from a science popularizer.

Two further observations:

* The fact that he is able to produce entertaining science content shows that you don't need a ph.d. to be a good science communicator (he doesn't have a ph.d.). So, people probably wonder just what separates somebody like him from somebody with a research background. What is the "tell" that he isn't a researcher?

* Criticisms that YouTube is only filled with garbage content (because it's made by amateurs), are mostly true -- but there is some wheat among the chaff.

But you're right about his speech impediment, Starporn0. Before I knew his channel, I came across his video, loved it, then forgot about it. It wasn't until some time later that I hobbed across another random YouTube video and recognised his unique voice, that I was able to sub and follow him.

And Max7, O'Neill cylinders?

But you're right about his speech impediment, Starporn0...

Was this a typo or a pun? either way: Good Job!

now I will probably read starspawn0 as starporno forever.

ooh wait I always assumed it was "Star Spawn 0" but it could equally be "Star's Pawn 0", hmmm...

EDIT:

Also why do you think o'neil cylinders will never exist? Is there some other habitat design which is just in every way better? Or do you just not think scratch built space habitats of that scale will ever be economically viable.

I was actually able to get Isaac Arthur to sign up here a little over a year ago, but he left because the forum was glitchy as hell at the time, and he deleted his account.

Because YouTube videos are also treated as a security risk and won't load without making thread pages unsecure (hence the big empty blocks in posts with videos posted directly), I've been putting off asking him to come back because considering his videos are his thing, that seems like a pretty big glitch to have.

And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future.
