Sure feels that way to me. I'm 31 and retirement age is 65; feels like I'll be working till death unless something magicial happens.

Am I just going to have to work till death?

Well, it depends what your job is. As A.I. gets more and more advanced, it will be able to replace workers in low skilled and some medium skilled jobs, and help make the rest of medium skill jobs and high skilled jobs easier. However, every developed nation faces an aging population, meaning the retirement age probably would be extended, but this might not be that bad since humans are able to live longer and longer. So, you probably will be able to retire.

So you're saying I can retire at 70 since retirement will be pushed?

Implement a livable basic income and those kinds of issues go away... just like that.

If job has lotsa money = financial independence

If job has moderate money = homesteading/frugal financial independence

If job pays slave wages = seek better prospects

If no prospects exist = seek salvation in the afterlife, revolution, or hope the techno-utopians are right

Edit: you could also become a monk if that sort of thing floats your boat

Life is a struggle to make the pleasure part of the equation a little bigger.
