Do you think chimps will ever evolve into a species similar to Homo sapien? If so, when? How would this evolution play out without the presence of humans?

If they do, then

1- they're going to be a lot more diverse than human beings. We've spread chimps around the world, and it's this diversity (as opposed to the Homo genus remaining relatively contained in Africa/the Middle East) that might lead to entirely new types of human-like species that we cannot fathom. Those that 'grow up' in similar environments as early humans did will probably developed in similar fashions to humans, though they'd need every single variable to play out the exact same way. And that definitely won't happen.

2- they'll never reach "our level." We've pretty much used up a good chunk of industrial resources, so even if chimps advance to a decent level of intelligence, they're kind of stuck unless we restore the planet.

Unless chimps decide to become sea-lovers and evolve into Mermaids.

And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future.

Definitely NO. As long as we will rule Earth, this ecological niche will be occupied.

I was thinking about this just this morning. I reckon that eventually chimps will become members of civilisation with evolved intelligence. This topic should be in the science section, by the way.
