The main criticism I hear of that image is that it's just capitalism squeezing more productivity out of citizens, trying to get every last cent it can from workers. Which is true. But I dunno, a lot of people who have been crippled are often thrust into poverty. If there was some way to make them productive again, letting them control robots seems like a good way.
It's just a supremely shaky gambit that could only exist at this particular sliver of time.
