I don't actually remember where I was, other than where I worked and lived at the time. I do remember thinking it was a shame. She was a beautiful woman filled with grace and compassion. I was (and still am) not a great fan of royalty, but I do think it was a shame that she had to die so young.

The other thing I do remember is Elton John's adaptation of his own song about Marilyn Monroe. Some of the lyrics clearly applied to both:
